Title: can emotions be measured in a numerical value?
Post by: precrime3 on April 06, 2014, 04:36:22 PM
I remember reading Alex Rider, and in the last one, the antagonist wants to measure pain in rhazims or whatever. He uses Alex Rider as a test subject. Is it actually possible to do that? And if so, how?

Pain is like an orgasm, they can both be faked in varying degrees.

You would have to get into the brain somehow and see how the neurological wiring responds to an initial cut, a hit or the after effects of anything that is typically associated with physical pain.

how hurt do you feel on a scale from 1-10?

7

see :D

Yes sort of like the numerical rating scale. But is there a way to measure it, as said in this thread, pain can be faked.

I don't really know, but this might be the answer? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolorimeter

On the right track, but still missing something, as there are many forms of pain. For example, experiencing the passing of someone.

to measure heart rate, we would have a heart measuring device
to measure pain, a pain measure device? I dont know if such device exists yet.

given an image however, it would be easy to convert into a scale. Of course there would be a calibration step. Do you plan on making such device?

Haha no... It kinda would be nice to have your name immortalized into a measure of units such as watts and joules to name a couple :D

Of course just like beauty can be measured numerically

Really? What is the scale?
