Title: Can we solve blocks offline?
Post by: Bitcoin Magazine on April 07, 2014, 05:53:30 PM
Like See if we can get the hash with the certain amount of 0's beforehadn, and if we find one, then submit it at any time

Don't you have to be the first to submit a block?
Otherwise it is orphaned?

That's called selfish mining

I'm pretty sure you need to have the block number, at least, in there somewhere.  So, theoretically, yes it is possible to do this.  But it is not remotely worthwhile.

No. You need the hash from the previous block that was solved in order to create the new hash.

You need to build your new block on top of the longest known blockchain for it to be accepted by the network. This is why everytime the network finds a new block all miners must discard their work and start from scratch.
