Post by: Yurizhai on April 07, 2014, 09:24:44 PM
Sunny King's post. (http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=2473.msg22180#msg22180)

Quick rundown of v0.4:

- Debug window console support in Qt, easier to get to command line e.g. unlock wallet for minting (if you enter wallet passphrase in the console please remember to use the clear button to clear it).
- Protocol adjustment required for future p2pool support. Protocol switch scheduled for May 5th.
- Experimental getblocktemplate support
- getpeerinfo support
- Bug fixes
- Mandatory upgrade release, upgrade deadline May 4th.

Thread talking about minting through debug console. (http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=2612.msg22224#msg22224)

Visit the forums (http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php) should you have any questions.

Note: There is a community version in the works, expected release in a day or two with improved UI. ect.

What benefits will Peercoin get from p2pool?

What benefits will Peercoin get from p2pool?

As far as I understand it, it'll will lead to decentralized mining pools.

It's great to have the debug window in the qt version of the software. That makes PoS minting much more comfy :)
Now we may strive for a "minting button" :D

Yeah this made it much much easier. Never bothered with pos minting before now. Wonder how long it will take before i solve a block.  :)

Fuzzy, that's great you're working on these changes. Hopefully a lot of the ppcoin references are wiped out as well.

If you don't know how to update to the newest version, here are the instructions from Sunny King:

Quote
Upgrade instructions from v0.3.0:
- Backup wallet from qt menu or 'backupwallet' command. Please note directly copying wallet.dat file is not a 100% safe backup.
- Write down your wallet balance/newmint/stake.
- Shutdown and uninstall v0.3.0 client
- Download and install v0.4.0 client
- Start up v0.4.0 client, verify your wallet balance/newmint/stake
- Verify in the About dialog or getinfo output that your client version is v0.4.0ppc.

Please upgrade at least one day before protocol switch time (May 5th), otherwise blockchain redownload would be required for the client to work properly.

Cheers :)

Is anyone working on releasing a Mac version of the wallet app? I've got the daemon working, but don't want to deal with building a distributable version of the wallet. OTOH If someone starts a bounty I'd willing to contribute.

I believe Ben on PeercoinTalk was working on it.

I started minting 2 days ago from a stash that I kept for ages, I immediately got 1 block overnight. If you guys have big stash and never mint, I recommend highly to do it, right now there's not a lot of competition when minting, you'll get block in a matter of hours, then you can shut it down for safety until your stash ages again. Such Wow.

The guys at peercointalk are currently Wirkung on a raspberry pi image with the New build, so everyone will be able to permanently minting in a very secure environment and very energy effecient

Starting in May when the Peercoin protocol changes it will support p2pool. Does anyone know of any clean back/front interfaces for p2pool other than the official github version that could be used for mining PPC?

I currently have no access to the hard disk where I have my PPC wallet, can update it only about ~May 20.

Is there a problem with that? Perhaps I must update before run it the first time then? Or should I do a fresh install then and import the private keys?

No problem, I understand you only need to redownload the blockchain. As it is only just over 300mb, this is not a big issue for most people.
