Title: [CONCEPT] 2d multiplayer asteriods bitcoin mining game / faucet
Post by: monsterer on April 08, 2014, 05:07:59 PM
Hi,

I own the IP and code for a multiplayer version of the original arcade game asteroids:

In this game you mine asteroids, collect ore:

...transport it to the central refinery and turn it into in-game virtual currency:

...which they can then use to buy upgrades in the shop:

...the also get into some crazy battles with other players along the way:

What if we turn this game into a faucet where players mine asteroids, refine ore and earn bitcoins? Players could then use their bitcoins to buy upgrades for their ship in the in-game shop, where the proceeds would go back into the faucet.

I think this could be huge, but I need to partner with someone who shares the vision and has a little money to invest in this idea.

Investment wise, it would probably require around 1 months work to make all the necessary changes, which is around £4200.

Happy to split profits 50/50.

Anyone interested?

Cheers, Paul.

Do people think this is a bad idea? I'd like to hear why if so?

I think a better game idea would be based off "Sinistar"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcyBtVwAsfg

(Watch it for at least 1:15 to see the Sinistar attack)

Basically, while fighting off the AI attackers, you mine asteroids for bombs, which you use to defend against the Sinistar.

The bombs could become bitcoins.  :)

How exactly can you profit off this site for the investors?

In my sinistar idea you could replace the asteroid graphics with company logos.

that might hurt user experience. Maybe ads and an incentive to get better upgrades may be bettrr

Through advertising on the site and in-game revenue. Most faucets are kept afloat through simple advertising, but this game has the advantage that you can actually pay to upgrade your ship in game, so as well as putting that money back into the faucet, a proportion could be kept as profit for the site.

Cheers, Paul.

I see. Nice one Paul, though are you confident that this code cannot be exploited by other people? Don't mean to cast doubt on your game, just asking if you would be taking security measures

The game has been up and running in its current state for a year or so, allowing users to earn virtual in-game currency and I've not yet seen any instances of cheating. All the code which handles important user actions, like collecting ore, or powerups is server side so a hacked client wouldn't be any use.

Cheers, Paul.
