Title: [BCN] Bytecoin services - call to arms
Post by: DStrange on April 09, 2014, 02:16:17 PM
Everybody knows that cryptocurrency needs an infrastructure, but Bytecoin (BCN)/CryptoNote (despite it's technical superiority over bitcoin and forks) lacks of any services at least at surface web.

I invite all of you to start developing open services for Bytecoin (BCN)/CryptoNote technology.

Bounties fund: 14 500 000 BCN and 2 BTC

Anybody interested can join me and add more BCN to this wallet: 27cSmhsS62RDfSHB4fsvVZddhznGK4xgr5vPHWV9QMtAeVCo4hmavfR4hy45hBDmPE9N1ZRNGWzS6an 9e66R2KsBFG2BYEb [updated 6/30/2015]
You could also donate BTC to the address: 12X6PXALnm9TJMp1p7UYZEakYZKdpFX4i6 [updated 6/30/2015]

We need:
1. GUI miner
2. Graphic wallet (similar to Bitcoin-QT, reward is 5 000 000 BCN)
3. P2pool
4. Translations into other languages (reward is 300,000 BCN for the translation). We need an Italian and a French translation. There are German, Greek, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian (we sent 300,000 BCN for each translation).

5. Blockexplorer (done by http://minergate.com pool, 1 000 000 BCN were sent them as a reward)
5. New logo&website (logo contest here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582743, reward is 2 500 000 BCN!)
6. OSX version (reward is 3 500 000 BCN)

Let's do it!

We donated 5 000 000 BCN and 0.3 BTC from our fund for creating an open source Bytecoin&Monero pool - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589533.

DStrange, I've checked the wiki page and there actually are some methods that you've marked as "missing", except for "gettransaction".

What we really need is a decent web viewer. It is impossible to browse through the blockchain currently. Can anybody help?

I'll add 1,000,000 BCN for the work.

Is a useful block explorer even possible?  Blocking one seems to be largely the point of the privacy features.

It would only be useful as far as viewing transactions. Addresses are encrypted and have different values for every transaction.

Even the amounts of transactions are obfuscated. I'm not sure what you could see in a block explorer other than maybe volume of transactions.

Interesting idea but I support Smooth's question, is it possible or useful in any way?

Title: Re: [BCN] Blockexplorer - call to arms

I guess one thing useful you could do is search for a transaction (by hash) to see if it is getting confirmed. Not much of an explorer, and possibly easy to do in the client (haven't looked).

I think we need block explorer anyway. At least, we'll be able to monitor the blocks in a browser. It's quite annoying to do it in bytecoind. It might not tell us anything, but it should be a good start to try to visualize the chain.

However, I believe this topic is too narrow. We actually lack quite a lot of things. Let's say, the graphic wallet for the beginning.

I propose that we change this topic to collect the donations for the general infrastructure. The donations can be re-assigned to each project as the funds flow into it.

What do we need for the start:

1) Block explorer
2) Graphic wallet (similar to Bitcoin-QT).

Anything else?

An easy GUI miner. I personally think this is more important than the first 2.

p2pool support.

Solo mining won't last if the coin succeeds (otherwise we don't care). P2pool is the next best thing.

A GUI would make life much easier to me.
IMO it is pretty difficult (if not impossible) to create a working blockchain explorer.

After I saw this: https://cryptonote.org/inside.php#blockchain-analysis-resistance
it seems to me that crypto note makes it very hard to analyze BCN blockchain.

Here are some of examples of our work done so far:

We can also develop coins if you need them and do website / graphics design. Here is an example of our web design: http://epawncoin.com

Here is an example of our android wallet or epawncoin: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.epawncoin.wallet

Here is an example of our online wallet: http://wallet.epawncoin.com/

We have done the block explorer. Proof: https://minergate.com/#/blockchain/bcn/blocks
How can we get our reward?  :)

Can I give a suggestion as market strategy ?

Build a bytecoin live linux distro ... like Amnesic, Incogmico, Tails etc.. ( check out .. http://www.privacylover.com/anonymous-live-cd-list/ ) put all .onion cool staff on it also miners, deepmarket, irc, otp, etc... and upload it to distrowatch Wink and bytecoin or any other cryptonote based will rocket to the moon  ;)

Nothing mysterious, I just would like to show some job done already .. but as I said before it's about a tailored linux distro easy to use to cryptonote miners + wallets, p2pmarket, p2pechange all in one single package... I also was thinking to encourage people to use a custom version of linuxse. so you're basically planning to combine all BCN services in 1 distro?

Have some ideas in my head about logo. I agree that the colors shouldn't be changed as everyone has already used to it.

btw, do you think that devs would accept new logo and post it on the web if we'd suggest them one?

yep .. more or less ...

What I would like to see on a cryptocoin linux distro on the fly after boot ?

1 - A nice cryptocoin easy to mine with my everyday hardware;
2 - Easy to use wallet;
3 - Place to spend my mined coins ( could be darkmarket  ;D )
4 - Place to exchange my coin (like peertrade https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=529053.0 )
5 - tor
6 - news, chat, forum.. etc ...

and some other cool stuff ;)

I think so, they changed a music on the website for someone - and there was no profit in it. I think logo is going to be accepted very well since there is none now. (At least we don't know about it)

Hi, guys! Now I will help DStrange with all things concerning our new BCN-community (“open-Club-version” ;D)! I manage the giveaway and the bounties fund.

Bytecoin needs new super-logo as all coins, so I announce the logo contest.

There is the link to special thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582743 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=582743)!

Logo contest will be ended May, 12 at 00:00. After that our community will vote for favorites (I will create a vote) and a decision will be made in 24 hours.

Reward for winner is 2,000,000 BCN! Today 2 mln BCN is approximately equal to 0.4 BTC.

Ready, steady, go!

Do you think is it possible to change the soundtrack on the web to the soundtrack from Star Wars? So something closed to it? Friend of mine is a dj and he is able to create a good mix.

Nope, has a lot to work recently.
Unfortunately for me, my idea was close to actnow's idea.  Btw, he did it well.
I won't give up and will think about some new design at the weekend.

I'd suggest to rethink the wallet technical concept. Let's make a graphic wallet not similar to Bitcoin-QT!

Is a useful block explorer even possible?  Blocking one seems to be largely the point of the privacy features.

I think that 0,5 mln BCN for a logo and 0,5 mln for a GUI-wallet are good incentive ;)

Update on open-source pool:

zone117x is working on a NOMP implementation of pools for CryptoNote coins. Monero started a bounty to pay him and DStrange contributed to that. :)

The communities have reached the target for the bounty of 5.8 BTC and will be submitting soon.

Any update about GUI wallet ?
If I can know if nobody else is currently working on it, I'll make one. I'm really busy right now so it will take a while. But if somebody is already making it I'm not going to waste my time.

That would be great if you do this. Raxe.io wanted to work over it, but we have communication troubles.

Guys! I have a serious question for discussion again!

Our giveaway fund is short of BCN. We received our first BCN by giveaway and I think that help our fund is right.

10 or 100 or 1,000 or 10,000 or 100,000 BCN will be accepted thankfully!

Let's donate!

My question is.. why the BCN team doesn't join forces with MRO as one? BCN will forever have the stigma of one of the dodgiest coin launches ever. MRO on the other hand has been improving the software a lot so quick and has been on the clearnet from the begining, so why not join forces? Everyone I talk to they say they aren't touching BCN because of the 80% mined coins in secret.

How would you like to join forces? Create a mutual development fund? Or something else? I would be very happy if this holy war between BCN and MRO would finally come to an end.

And honestly I here about 80% all the time only from you and other main heroes of MRO. Don't you contradict yourself offering to join forces?

MRO is executing a scorched earth policy versus the rest of the CryptoNote world...
While religiously syncing BCN code every weekend.

And... all you little doggies beavering away + lots of bounties = NO GUI WALLET?

What is wrong with this picture?

Who controls what... is this a big, complex scam?

I'm looking at you Monero Mr. News Blackout...
Instamine a new CN coin every few days forever? Is that it?

Guys! BCN community creates a media fund!

We need to increase the media activity around our lovely Bytecoin.

We will create a special resource that will allow us to get the latest content about BCN.

You will be able to contribute your pics, videos, articles etc and get reward for it.

Any type of website content sharing will also earn you amazing rewards.

Every one involved would be rewarded with a fine amount. And as usual we are offering to invest in the idea. This will help increase BCN and our equity in the future!

Invest in Bytecoin media fund, send some BCN to this address

Code:

All links coming soon...

Now there's 3,420,000 BCN in the Bytecoin media fund

Hey guys I have just set up a new pool running with 1% fee's I would appreciate it if I could get a few more miners that would be great as currently i'm running a bit low and this coin seems to be lacking pools. Also an add to the first post would be great.

Please advise by way of reply to this post.
