Title: What is the starting point ?
Post by: BitCoinDream on April 09, 2014, 07:31:45 PM
When we are generating addresses using Bitcoin-QT, what is the starting point ? I mean what input Bitcoin-QT takes from Windows OS, say Win 7 ? Windows generated random numbers ?

Ask a simple question:

"When we are generating addresses using Bitcoin-QT what input does Bitcoin-QT take from Windows OS, Windows generated random numbers?"

Get a simple answer:

"Yes."

I suppose I could have been a bit more wordy...

"Yes, when generating addresses using Bitcoin-Qt, Bitcoin-Qt gets a random number from the operating system."

Is that any better?

Did I hear it was number of microseconds since last boot for this or something else??? Taken as the seed... anyway, something like that.

Yes.

So it is a random number, NOT a random string. Ok... Any idea about the length of the number ? If there is no fixed length then probably the max length ?
