Title: MagicMiner: operating system for easy mine scrypt/scrypt-n/x11/gridseed (Ubuntu)
Post by: p4u on April 09, 2014, 11:19:53 PM
Hey, check the magicminer operating system for mining scrypt/scrypt-n/x11. It also supports GC3355.

https://magicpool.org/main/magic_os (https://magicpool.org/main/magic_os)

List of features:
  • Based on Ubuntu GNU/Linux free and open software
  • Best Catalyst AMD drivers for Radeon 7950 7970 280x 290x 6950 6990
  • The best software for mining scrypt: sgminer already configured
  • Support of scrypt, scrypt-n and x11!
  • Support for GridSeed 3355 in dual mode
  • Very easy to use! You will find many icons in the desktop to do all you need to do
  • Automatic detection of hardware and configuration (first time it will self-configure and reboot automatically)
  • Easy and intuitive web interface for configuring it (just magicpool user and worker alias needed)
  • ReadOnly filesystem, so no filesystem problems when power off suddenly
  • Of course it does NOT need VGA/DVI connected to the GPU for mine!
  • Full filesystem image provided, so it can be directly burned to an USB stick or a hard drive

https://magicpool.org/includes/images/magicos/mp3.png

Any feedback is welcome!

Is this something like SMOS?

Yes it is like SMOS or BAMT but with some differences and new features.
The most importants for me is that it supports scrypt-n and x11. And also it GridSeed 3355 in dual mode.
Of course it is quite more young than SMOS, so many things must be improved and added. So if you find something, please report it.

Ok. I have tried n-scrypt and choose for my 3 Radeon R 290, the 2 option. After starting mining my system was freezing. Is option 2 only for 290´Xs?

What can I try in my config?

Thx for first aid;-)

Is Gridseed in scrypt mode only not possible?

and scrypt-jane and scyrpt-og and keccak, please.

We need a  magic tool to use every kind of possible mining variation.
This tool is not windows.lol.

Perhaps you can create a surface like hashra oder smos.

Big THX and mine on

Mmm, the last step of the wizard is to edit and customize the sgminer.conf file
When it ask you for which card do you have, it only gives you a template. This template works for 280x and should work for 290x too.
But you should customize some options in the sgminer.conf file, depending on your hardware and so on.

Sorry but it is not yet so automatic, it does not configure all sgminer options for you, just gives you an starting point :(

Yes, in theory if you do not configure any pool for SHA (leave it blank) it should start the minerd only in LTC mode.

Mmmm, I've never testet it but I think it should work. If you select "x11" you are actually using sph-sgminer, and it should support also these algorithms.

So select x11 and in the sgminer.conf edit phase, change the "kernel" option one of these:

Code:
darkcoin
groestl
inkcoin
sifcoin
animecoin
simd
skein
blake
quarkcoin
myriadcoin-groestl
cubehash
bmw
shavite
qubitcoin
jh
aes_helper
fugue
luffa
groestlcoin
keccak
echo
fuguecoin

Scrypt-jane and Scrypt-og seems not to be supported, but I can add the binary if you point some software which supports it.

Yep, an improved tool for:
- select algoritm
- autodetect GPU
- configure GPU
- start mining

Would be great. If I see it makes sense because people out of our pool use this system, I'll work on it.

Thanks to you!

ok in the meantime I checked out the generic option with a new prepared stick.

Now I have the problem while tryin minin n-skrypt that my fans wouldnt get speed. The R 290´s got hot like heel with no fan and I decided to make a cut at 92 degrees.

Can you help?

And thank you for your fast information.

Great that the system supports so many other cointypes:-) Flexible like hell.lol.

Great tool.

In need Configs for Sapheir Radeon R 290´s and I dont know anything about it.

In only know that I tried know option 4. And the fans still didnt turn on.

Do you think I shoul try additionals my old SMOS configs

You can almost copy & paste the SMOS config file. The only thing you have to change is the "kernel" from "scrypt" to "psw" o "ckolivas" (first one recommended).

To transfer your 290x config to the system, you can copy&paste it in http://pastebin.com
Then from the miner, open a browser (firefox) and go the the pastebin you have created.
Then click on the icon "sgminer editor" in your desktop
Remove all the current setings and paste your ones from pastebin
Change this kernel value to "psw"
Save and Exit from the text edit
And then start the gpu again.

EDIT: sorry, if you are mining scrypt-n you must NOT select "ck-olivas" as kernel. Also add the option to your config file "nfactor": "11", somewhere in the middle.

If anybody knows the perfect Configs

For

R 290 ( without X )

Please post

Tried much but I didnt got it workin.

Make later an other try.

The config. with I have posted above is from SMOS running cgminer 3.72. Therefore it worked perfect.

THX for advice.

how to get mining speed in ssh? I saw 0 then i run sgminer manually. It was same trobubles in bamt.. no ADL_SDK?

Pretty neat man! Good work, with scryptn is adaptive n starting at 11 or do you set the factor? Because ADN would need to be able to set nfactor to 6

Yes it is. Once you configure your miner, it will always start mining automatically. Also as the system is mounted RO (read only) the power failures should not affect the consistency of the filesystem.

The last step of the configuration wizard is a raw edit of the sgminer.conf file. By default the nfactor is 11, but of course you can change it to 6.
Also afterwards, if you want to change the factor you can click the icon "sgminer editor" or edit manually the file "/home/crypto/.sgminer/sgminer.conf" using nano or vim throw an ssh session.

If you don't have VGA/mouse/keyboard attached yo your miner,  you can manage the system also from SSH, but you need to follow the next steps:

1. run "bash sgminer-conf.run"
2. Follow the wizard
3. If there is some error afterwards, don't worry, it is because you need to run sgminer from the X11 environment
4. Check if the file "start" exist "ls -l /home/crypto | grep start"
5. Reboot your miner "reboot"
6. Next boot a process will be launched under the X11 envorinment
7. Attach to the sgminer using screen "screen -x" (CTRL+A+D to detach from screen)
8. If there is some issue with the configuration file, you can edit it runing "nano .sgminer/sgminer.conf"
9. To apply the new settings, reboot or attach to the screen and press "q"

We have uploaded a new version of the magicOS.

Changelog:

1. Fix a bug in the 280x configuration template (error in json configuration)
2. Add specific configuration for 290x, please test it and report if it works
3. If using GridSeed in only scrypt mode, it creates one minerd instance for each module (in my tests it works better)
4. Some documentation improvements (README file)

If you would like to have some extra feature, we can consider it :)

I've never tested it with BTC ASICS, so there is not configuration template for that, you must create your own sgminer/cgminer configuration.
The magiOS currently have last sgminer, cgminer 3.1 and minerd. If one of those support blades, then it should work.

Let me know if you try it and if works send me the config file to include in the distribution for future releases.

Using it with great plessure,

But my question is,

Is there a way to update the X11 mining kernel (sgminer)

I found a kernel online thats supposed to be alot faster.

Or can i just overwrite the kernel map on the usb stick and then it works?

Would like to hear it asap.

thanks for your update,

Is there a way i can update it manually or is it easyer to wait for you and then just rewrite the os to the thumb drive.

If you have skills in Linux you can do it yourself.

Execute "sudo rw" to set the filesystem in read-write mode
Execute: sudo su; cd /root/
Clone the repository using git
Try to compile it following the README instructions

Some users have reported a compilation error related with the OpenCL, I've not checked it yet but if you do let me know.

i seem to have a realy weird problem

Im mining darkcoin on my p2pool node.

But now i've got the 2nd miner in action, the first is showing realy low hashrates (500-600khash/s) and the 2nd is fine. (1,9mhash)

Do you know whats happening?

i've set the api port for mcast and api port both from 4028 to something else so that shouldnt be a problem?

would like to hear from you as soon as possible :)

Sorry I have not idea. I have not experience mining X11. I have complied and prepared the whole system, but I don't know how to deal with your problem.

I'll include soon a new X11 software in the distribution, maybe it fix also your issue.

Cheers

Not yet, sorry. I've been very very busy with the pool.

I started some efforts to put the magicOS code online so anyone can contribute and modify it:

https://github.com/p4u/magicOS/

It does not work yet (the generated image is not booting, probably some error with the MBR/grub). If someone has time to check it, would be nice.

In any case, as soon as possible I will update the sgminer version.
