Title: Question about a transaction
Post by: feydreva on January 03, 2012, 07:17:27 PM
Hello,

I m some test transfert using a few btc to have a feel into it before I go for bigger transaction.

I created 2 wallets, 1 dailly accounts, 1 for saving.

1st question :
can I use the same datadir for both wallet ? (i copy the 1st wallet in, open bitcoin, do my stuff, close bitcoin, copy the second wallet to the datadir, openbitcoin, do my stuff) ??

2nd question :

I sync with the daily account, when i Put the saving account, it s already synced. Do I have to wait some more to get an update ??

3rd : if 1sr not possible ? what s a convient way to  have multiple wallet ?

4 :
when I copy my daily wallet to the  datadir, after i m done using bitcoin, should I copy it back to the daily storage place ?, or can I use the previus version I copied from ? for the next time ?

5 : I have 2  wallet.dat, exact copy..... can I use either of them ? or should I keep track of the one I m using ?

6 : irl senario :
I copy the Daily wallet into the datadir of Bitcoin, and Sync.. I get updated to today's date, I have 0.8 btc
I send 0.05 to an adress on my Saving account...

Wait 12hrs : check the saving account, the transaction is there, 45 confirmations, Check the Saving Wallet : Nothing

what s wonrg ?
there is the transaction ?

I did only Xfert 0.05 (output 1), what is the second Xfert 0.038......(output 0)

Thank you for you help, and for helping me understanding Bitcoin

1 - Yes, but be careful not to lose any of the wallets. If you lose the file your money is gone.
2 - The "sync" is independent of the wallet. If you have downloaded all the blocks then your client is updated regardless of which wallet you use
3 - There is a new client (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56424.0) coming up that might make this easier, but for now I don't know of any easier way.
4 - If you sent money, you should make a new backup of the wallet file
5 - You can use either of them, but after you send money from one wallet you should copy it to replace the other
6 - The 0.038 is the "change" from the transaction that will be returned to the wallet where you sent your coins from. Are you sure that the address 16E74xiL19Suz1nVKd8p7ZnuZsjMswZYAC is in your Savings Wallet?

6 - "16E74xiL19Suz1nVKd8p7ZnuZsjMswZYAC" is an adress I created by cliking on Receive Coin, New Adress, from my saving wallet...

How long will it take before I see the 0.05 BTC in that wallet ?

If you are synchronized with the network you should see it. We're currently at block 160473

Bitcoin client is green, "up to date, 160473 blocks of transaction history, last block downladed 15 min ago", 8 actives connections, ...

I do not understand why I cannot see my 0.05 BTC :P

I would like to understand why s going before investing some more money into BTC..
