Title: How much cash and Bitcoins is sitting on the sidelines in their Mt. Gox accounts
Post by: toddbethell on April 11, 2011, 06:55:11 AM
These questions stem from the topic about 'Dark Pools'
As a trader/investor I would much rather know the following:
1. What is the size of the ultimate 'dark pool' of cash and Bitcoins sitting on the sidelines in their Mt. Gox accounts?
2. What is the average cash volume in the Mt. Gox system (or partners) not yet applied to accounts?
3. How many registered traders are their?
4. What is the average number of accounts per trader (1? 5? 20?)?
5. What is the ratio of traders using their real (traceable) names, emails, addresses. (This would give an indication of the 'fear factor'?
6. What is the average time it takes for a trader (experienced & newbie) to get funds all the way from cash or a BofA? (Indication of the true velocity and liquidity of Bitcoin)
7. Is their a way to know the handles of traders so I can 'thank' them or 'curse' them as the case may be?
8. Were can I buy one of these 'bot' applications already configured (preferably with a GUI)?

The only question that you posted that I can even remotely guess at is a statistic I saw put out stating that only 10% of dark pool orders are "dark only".  I don't know if that meant 10% of the quantity of orders or if that was 10% of total BTC volume in those orders.

For Euro accounts, getting USD into MtGox takes about 2-3 days, and it takes the same time to withdraw, based on what I have heard from Jed (previous MtGox owner)

I think your best bet with this would be to post a request on the "marketplace" board (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=5.0). Most (all?) exchanges make available an "API" so having a bot interact with an exchange is pretty easy. The hard part will be the rest of the bot - the part that decides when and whether to trade, and how much. I don't know if anything like that exists at present, or, if it does, the owner(s) would be willing to (1) admit to it, and (2) sell their bot.
