Now who says Games don't kill people?

They really need to place tighter controls on gaming in South Korea - playing for days on end leading to the death of family is unjustifiable IMO. Poor kid probably wouldn't have gotten a good childhood even if he did survive.

Checked in on his child once every two or three days?!?! This is pure stupidity and not gaming addiction that led to this tragedy. If it wasn't video games then it would have been something else. He continued gaming after he had disposed of his son. Wow. I'd say that this is sociopath behavior but even most sociopaths have shown protective qualities towards their own kin.

Really? What do you want them to do? Make it illegal to play games after a certain duration? This is child neglect/abuse and he probably just used it as an excuse. Placing restrictions on games and gaming wont help.

Being a neglectful parent has nothing to do with gaming, I'm sick of parents trying to cover up their own incompetence by blaming computer games and ruining the fun I have in my free time.

My neighbor let his daughter drown in a running bathtub while he was making top ramen...thought leaving the drain open would keep 1 year old safe...  ???

My eyes really got wet when I imagined the kid's condition when the two-year-old was alone at home for 2-3 DAYS. How would he manage going to sleep, eat or even poop?

It is absolutely sickening to hear tragedies like these. Thinking of how the child was feeling when he dies, and how the mother felt when she found out, made me wish he will get the death penalty (yes, south Korea still has the death penalty).  >:(

You are the sick one in here when you say that someone should be killed.

He must of had serious problems but i guess situations like this one are pretty rare. So this situation is just like a psycho Exception.

Hanging would be too quick. I'd prefer the old rat in a tin tied to chest and heated up with a blow torch.

Until 2006, I was addicted to the Age of Empires. I used to play it 12-14 hours a day, despite severe nausea and headache. So... I know how it is to be, mortally addicted to computer games.  >:(

The guy has already issues, it's the gaming that kill, he is not a professional gamer yet he plays that much, when I was in the equivalent to grad school, I used to play some MMOs and was high ranked world wide, to achieve this and to keep doing well at school, I used and have a social life (at least go out on weekend) I used to sleep 4 to 10 hours a week, and obviously it wasn't good, I stopped doing sport, (I used to play rugby for school team and used to do weight lifting before ) and still to this day, and the only thing that saved from destroying my health is that I made a program to take at least a week break every month or so. One I got to engineering school I reduced the gaming time considerably to almost none

Speaking of death a semi Pro gamers died after consuming 5-6 might be even more, of energy drinks over the course of a day and he stayed up for 16 hours or so

And now he is in the league of legends...

I still say the game didn't kill anybody lol.  It doesn't have a child it didn't fail as a parent...

Games don't kill people as in directly, but sadly some games are built in such a way to addict people, and I know what I'm talking about, and some people fall to trap and this is the dangerous part about gaming, I think there should be some limites sets are at least some guidance to inform people about the addiction problem and how to avoid it

I understand where your coming from I just just answering the question posed by the OP.  All I know is my niece has a father that loves to game and she is doing very well.  Not everyone is the same and I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule.

Some people should not have kids. But it is true that games does not kill people. Actions of stupid people do. If you are addicted it is bad for you no matter what your addiction is.

Well if anything that is even worse. He's so addicted that he'd kill his on son so that he can get back to playing. Clearly the guy has severe mental health issues - it blows my mind that people can do such a thing.

its not addiction but more like possesion that guy havr mental issue i guess there is a lot of people who is very addictive to some online games but still can do their daily routine but this guy has a very different case

Agreed, andI'd say that is the least of his problems...  I think it's fair to say he's very mentally unstable along with irresponsible and I think we can throw a few more things in there..

Currently there is a moratorium on capital punishment in South Korea, partly due to the pressure from Amnesty international and other human rights organizations. The last executions took place in December 1997. The last person to be handed out a death sentence in South Korea was Kang Ho Sun in 2009.

Saying he is irresponsible would be an understatement. I wonder how he even managed to get married. He was jobless and his wife was working her ass off in a factory. The least he could do was save the money he was spending on games and take care of the kid while his wife was working.

If I was the owner of the cyber cafe, I would not let him enter my cafe after reading this news.

Addiction or obsession it doesn't matter, playing games has obviously negatively effected his life and health and now of others, so it makes a good case for addiction.

Yes yes I didn't read through the whole thread, only got to the sentence where OP showed how stupid he was.

This guy needs to be checked by psys if he is really sick then he should be locked in a psychiatric hospital for a dozen of years if he is not then he should be jailled for life for such a crime, if he is indeed the one that suffocated his child, there are two versions in news media right now, one is that he killed his child to go back to gaming the other is that he didn't feed his child and he neglected him

Yes, but it's the medias way of scaring people. "Games make you violent, look here, ONE boy in australia hit a hole through his wall when he got angry" etc etc. That's what keeps them alive, scaring people.
