Title: [POLL] Which altcoin should replace Auroracoin in the ALTDEX? Post by: juanbond on April 15, 2014, 03:48:35 PM In light of the recent decimation of Auroracoin's value, ALTDEX (http://altdex.org/) is most likely going to be removing Auroracoin from the index and replacing it with a more stable/valuable altcoin. Please vote if you'd like to have some say in the future of this altcoin total market index...we already have a couple front runners in mind, but we want to get a sense of what the community prefers to see included in the ALTDEX going forward.
For reference, ALTDEX is currently comprised of the following ten altcoins:

Of these coins, zet has a ton of potential (although may be in a pump n dump at the moment). Quark is a good stable one that's been around for a while. Quark has been quite steady in it's price actually. Where as Blackcoin has shown quite a bit more volatility see here http://coinmarketcap.com/bc_180.html . Definitely not as closely tied to bitcoin, and definitely more volitile. But it's still a young coin. The latest price trend on Cryptsy showed it wobbling around a mean, suggesting it is settling in to a more balanced state.

Blackcoin just dropped below Quark in terms of market cap. Quark has been shooting up last couple days, but I still think it will become stable at some point. I think its the better choice for an index than blackcoin, although I am admittedly biased.

It is also now number 9 on coinmarketcap quite comfortably (more than double above the coin at number 10). Volatile or not, doesn't matter. Blackcoin is top 10 in market cap and has been top 5 in traded volume. Blackcoin is, compared to the other coins, relevant in an index since it is such a large part of the market that you're trying to index. Quark may very well be older and more stable, but it's a third of the market cap and roughly a hundredth of the traded volume compared to blackcoin which makes it less relevant to add to the index. If what you're trying to do is just to promote "good" coins, then don't have a poll. Just pick the one you're holding most of. Title: Re: [POLL] Which altcoin should replace Auroracoin in the ALTDEX? However, I agree that BlackCoin's price evolution probably doesn't really represent alt coins and therefore it might not be the best choice to be added to ALTDEX right now.

We're not exactly sure when we will alter the index...but probably sometime next week. We'll be using the same technique that stock indicies use (a modified divisor) in order to keep the index at the same value despite replacing one small market cap with a larger one. We're a bit averse to adding Blackcoin because it is relatively new...though if it continues to hold a large part of the market, we could certainly add it in the future once we feel it has stood the test of time a bit more. We hold no balance of any of these coins, and we're not trying to promote anything other than the ALTDEX.
