Failing is kind of what Embargos do right?  So to fail will be just as magnificent as success.


But it does bring what a lot of people complain about other coins not having.  Lower block reward, less supply.  But to give that with a short block time seems like too much of a handout.  We are going to make you work and wait for the few coins available if you want them.

The development is pretty much finished at this point, just working on getting a few more things done before setting the launch date.

That's awesome, thank you!  And we are doing EBG not EBC, but I assure you that we are legit and not trying to hide anything.  But then all the other dev's lately that have done bad things have all appeared to be legit too.  I definitely encourage everyone to look over the source code once it is released this Friday 5/9.  I want to stay honest and have a successful coin launch, but I do realize the scrutiny that is on all new coins after the last few that have had issues.  We also should have a pool available for pre-registration within the next day as I work on getting everything else setup for the launch.


And nothing nefarious in the code to stop trading or coin creation, just slow block times and smaller coin rewards every 90 days once we reach the peak of coin creation.

I'm definitely trying not to become hated by the community, I've seen how that happens with a lot of other coins.  I'll always be open and honest about what I do with the coin, and since this is the first coin that I've launched (and will probably be the only) I don't want to get on anyones hit list like the developers of dafuq and asiacoin have recently done, that's just bad for the all altcoins.  I also didn't want to do an IPO or any premine to try to use this as a way for myself to get rich, I'll have a pool running for mining and I'll throw the asics I have at it (only 380GH/s worth) so I definitely won't be getting a large majority of the coins and depending on how many people decide to mine it I may get very few myself, but I will be happy to have the hash power on the chain and to have a successful coin.

Good stuff! Being willing to support your coin is very important.

Lending your hash always helps, as does being present and active on the forums and on social media.

Any 'Dev' who approaches this subforum with a positive attitude about pushing cryptocurrency forward will stand a chance to succeed.

Of course you won't be as well loved as the pump and dump darling of the day, so you have to be prepared to work hard to get a return.

There are already so many coins, it's nearly impossible to stand out.

And feel free to ask me any questions you may have, like I've said, I want to be open and honest, and I see you've already found that I've helped with some code on a few other coins, didn't do too much with the other coins and I was never a dev on those projects, was just helping them out.

What makes this coin special, well, it's a little different than the other alt coins out there with longer block time instead of shorter, but that probably doesn't make it special, just a bit more unique.  We also have a fairly limited number of coins with 6.5 Million being mined in the first year then dropping to less than .5 million in year 2 and only around 37k the 3rd year when we get to yearly inflation of only 26,298.  With the longer block times being set at 20 minutes I do not plan for this coin to be used for walk up purchases or for it to need an android wallet real early as the coin pretty much guarantees 1 hour or more for transactions to be confirmed.  This can still accommodate internet purchases for any vendors that may want to accept this coin. 

My plans at the moment are to ensure a successful launch and see where we go from there, any and all suggestions or  help from the community to make this the best coin possible are always welcome.

To be fair I think he was referring to just the one pool.  I personally do not have any experience with them and hope they are honest, if however we see problems with them we will remove them from the pool list on the announcement.

Just got a block explorer setup and waiting for DNS to propagate, should be available at http://explorer.embargocoin.com:2750 before launch.

And before anyone asks, yes the Genesis block 0 shows 500 EBG and was donated into the blockchain so will never be available to be in anyone's wallet.  Once the source code is released that can be verified as well.

I stand behind this coin, and do not want it to turn into a joke, but I will definitely need support from the community to help make it all it can be.  Like I've said before, I'm open to any suggestions and any input from the community.  I may not agree with the input but I will consider anything that is worthwhile for the coin.

20 min block time severely limits the viable services. Merchant services like use for purchase transactions will not be viable. Blocktime is also one Bitcoin's biggest issues.

Blocks are only 50 now. Later on there will be blocks of 500 so then you just need one block to match 10 of the current blocks.

Got them all on my 4 ant miner U2s pushing almost 7.25 GH/s. I got lucky and my wallet got synced on block #6.

It definitely does limit some services, and I realized that going in.  It will definitely not be good for any real time purchases or walk up purchases.  Internet payment services for goods that don't need real time confirmation will still work though.

We had a lot of miners pointing their rigs at the coin at launch, as the difficulty rose quickly it appears a lot of those miners have backed off for now leaving us with lower hashrate and the high difficulty.  This was to be expected at launch and once the network hashrate stabilizes the diff will start dropping again, it will just take a little bit to get through the next few blocks while that adjustment takes place.

It will be good enough for donations...  :D

You also have to remember that the blockchain is programmed to try to have 20 minute blocks, so that means the difficulty will be higher to try and maintain that speed.  The difficulty will be twice what Bitcoin would be at the same hashrate.

This coin is going to fail! I have solid information to proof this! 'BenjaminsBaby' launched 2 months ago, with a 10 minute block time and 10 million total coins. Everything started off very well but the difficulty climbed very quickly until all the miners left and stuck with a very slow blockchain. 10 minute block chain is guaranteed failure.

That's like saying Bitcoin is going to fail because it has a 10 minute blocktime and very high difficulty.  If it wasn't bitcoin everyone was basing the prices of other coins off of everyone would say bitcoin would fail.  The difficulty will always be higher on a chain with 10 minute or 20 minute blocks because difficulty depends on the time it's supposed to take to solve a block, so diff will always be higher than a 30 second or 2 minute coin.

21 hours in and it looks like the blockchain is doing good at maintaining close to 20 minutes on average between blocks.  I'm still waiting to hear back from a few exchanges but hopefully we'll be listed on at least 1 within a few days when coins start making it to wallets.

At this point I am really happy with the launch and feel the coin is performing greatly, we are still averaging out to less than 20 minutes per block, there have been some long rounds over the last day but this is Embargo coin and we are trying to bust through the Embargo, so I think it goes nice with the theme of the coin, while still maintaining the overall average.

Stay away from anything that is Mazacoin or Maplecoin. They're just a bunch of hackers who will dump this coin on everyone once it hits the exchanges. They only care about BTC. Any coin they make is a scam.

I've already answered this but here it goes again, I am not affiliated with or the dev of Mazacoin or Maplecoin, I did run a pool for both of those coins and still do, I assisted them with a code push to help fix some issues on github but they are not my coins.  Embargocoin is the only coin I have developed.  I did use some of the Mazacoin source code when I got started but the code has been changed drastically from that and I doubt any of the Mazacoin changes still exist in the code at this point.

Unfortunately I found a slight issue with the diff calculation, to fix it I am pushing an update out which will require a fork, I set it to fork at block 600 and have updated the wallets and source code, please make sure you download the newest version of the wallet from the Original post and pool operators please recompile from github.  I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Sory but i have a quoestion: Why the money is not confirmed at now?

Because of the embargo it takes 220 blocks to confirm.  We are only at block 186, so no coins are confirmed in the network yet.

Once we get to block 222 we'll be doing some giveaways on twitter, only have 100 EBG to give away so it will be gone fast, have any ideas to make the giveaway unique and fun?  Send your ideas here and if we use it we'll give you 5 EBG.

I am working on it, but with no coins matured yet there are no coins to put on a market just yet.  But we will be there soon, Allcrypt says they have us in their queue to add but not sure how long that will take.  Larger exchanges will want to see community support behind the coin.  I have requested to be added to mintpal and cryptsy voting but no response from them yet.

The hashrate is always an estimate based on the last few blocks solve time and difficulty.  So it's always possible it could be off due to finding blocks faster due to luck.  I think we are in reality closer to the 9TH/s range at the moment than 24.

What does everyone think about this coin? I've been mining it since the beggining and still have no confirms on my pool...

Coin maturity is slow with this coin on purpose and it takes 220 blocks to confirm.  We are at block 237, so only 17 blocks have been confirmed and paid out at this point on the whole network, this means right now there are only 850 EBG available to be sent between anyone at this time.

That it is, I wanted it to be slow, but it is going a little bit slower than I had hoped which is why we have new wallets out and a fork coming at block 600, but we are still at least a week out from block 600.  I just wanted to make sure there was ample time for everyone that had downloaded the wallet to update.  Also makes it harder to break through the Embargos and get the next block, it's been interesting to watch to say the least.  Also the trade sanctions are going to be easing in about 12 blocks increasing block reward to 100 EBG.  Hopefully by the time we get to the 500 EBG blocks (block 2268) we'll have more consistent hashrate on the network and more miners mining.

Took a little longer than initially anticipated, I think at this point since launch we are averaging about 28 min per block.  Hopefully once the diff change hits at block 600 things will smooth out a little and get us back closer to 20 min blocks.  But as this was designed to be a slow coin I'm not upset with it taking longer, and I hope no one else is either.  It's just Embargos take awhile to get around :D

100EBG blocks should start breaking the Embargo once trade sanctions lighten up in about 3 blocks.

Derived form the current network hash rate (which is an assumption based on the average block spacing) of roughly 10 TH/s (varies greatly, can be seen at the bottom here: http://embargocoin.com/; here was EmbargoCoin's guess: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=574155.msg6701833#msg6701833), you should get 0.18 / 9 of all blocks at average.
Yesterday there have been 41 blocks. You could have expected to get 0.02 * 41 = 0.82 of them.
The day before yesterday there have been 40 blocks.
It's up to you whether you want to go solo with 180 GH/s or not ;)

Yeah, block reward changes every 251 block from block 1 and not the genesis block of 0, so the first block with 100 was supposed to be 252.

Just remember, always mining on the pool with the largest hashrate isn't necessarily good for the coin network and users should spread the hash around to multiple pools.

Blockchain is still moving along strong and it's nice to see transactions moving along as well, even if those transactions right now are just from pools to the miners.  Hopefully we'll be listed on an exchange soon and you'll be able to trade away.

Yeah, sorry about that, in my haste to fix the diff I neglected to increase the version number.  All the download links have been corrected and all files have been updated.  I'll make sure to increase the version with any subsequent changes that may come down the line, nothing in the works at the moment though.

Ah yeah, that guy.  Will be interesting to see what the market will go for, with the low total coins over the life of the coin it has the potential to be higher, and it might take a little while to see the true potential with the long block times, but it definitely makes it a harder coin to dump.

While it would have been nice to have been listed on voting on mintpal it also makes sense to have community behind the coin first as it would be hard to garner votes if we don't have community backing, so rather than take this as defeat, we should take this as a challenge to get more people on-board and to gain acceptance for the coin.  We at least meet one of the conditions currently in that we have 0 pre-mine.

Just an observation watching other markets move around, but with only 21 Million Bitcoin to ever come into circulation, and all markets being based on bitcoin we really need a new currency that can store the value of bitcoin as possibly higher values that can be invested in that is harder to change the price of to free up the bitcoin for other transactions.  With 3 times less supply than bitcoin (with minimal inflation after year 3) and double the block time (which makes it harder to transfer around and dump prices) could Embargocoin possibly fill this need?

200 EBG right now is just below 1% of all the EBG that is available in the market right now, since that is all that has been confirmed at this point, so while it's not a ton, it is close to 1% of all that's out there, I don't think you'd be able to get someone to give away 1% of all of what is out there of Bitcoin or Darkcoin in a giveaway.  The block reward is slowly increasing and will increase to 500 EBG per block by the time it reaches block 2268.  The confirmations and block time will not be changed as it is fundamental to this coin.

Seems like too much of anything is killing. Let's see how your idea pans out.

I would ideally like to see us as a very stable coin that can hold it's own value without too much volatility being dumped, the 20 minute block time is a little protection against dumping since it will take over an hour for a transaction to be moved from a wallet to an exchange, or between exchanges.  With the total number of coins available being only a little over 7 million with very little inflation per year after that (around .3%) the coin has the capability of storing at least 3x the Bitcoin value if we can get community support behind it.  While this may just be a dream to be able to store that amount, I see that it could definitely be possible.  This is designed more as an investment coin that can maintain value and hopefully have gradual growth, rather than a day to day transaction currency with a volatile price.  However all markets can be volatile and I wouldn't listen to me for investment advice, but I think we definitely have potential, we just have to build up the community behind it and get interest into the coin, which is why I'm trying to do some giveaways with the coins I have and I don't have too much at the moment, there are definitely other miners out there with more holdings than myself.

What are the plans for promoting? No innovation in the OP than limiting the coin supply.

We are past block 600 and the diff change has taken effect, we now recalculate diff after every block, so block times should start to be more consistent.

We are still getting all the plans together for promotion of the coin, we have been waiting for the initial ramp up phase to finish and will start with more promotions once we reach the 500 EBG per block phase.  If you have any suggestions for things you would like to see done for promotion we are definitely willing to listen.

It looks like blocks are moving a lot better than they were before, only time will tell how close we stay to 20 min per block at this point, but so far it's looking pretty good.

Blockchain has been running a lot smoother since the diff change and block 600, last 24 hours have seen an average of 15 min per block, a little faster than the 20 minute blocktime, but better than the long blocks we had prior to the update.

Sanctions have been lifted slightly again and we are up to 200 EBG per block for 251 blocks until sanctions loosen up a little more.

Would anyone like to see a dice or wheel game for Embargocoin?  We may be able to get that setup but would like to gauge interest first.

Thank you for pointing this out, we did a server migration and moved the node to a new server earlier this week but waited for all DNS to update before turning the old server off, but it's possible the node was hardcoded over there, but I was pretty sure I checked that it said it was still connected after I turned off the old server.  I have contacted Europex with the new node IP and a list of other IP's that are currently peering so that hopefully we can get this issue resolved.

It looks in the rite place, blocks folder, chainstate folder, database folder, .lock, peers, db, debug all in application data. Dont see no .conf !

Why are people selling for so cheap?

Because they don't see the value that is so clear to others, they'll come around and wish they had held.

There are a ton of multipools. If all those bottom-feeders put in higher sell orders, they would still fill!

Just want you to know I haven't forgotten about this, we have done some testing on XP and can confirm the problem with it, working on finding a fix for it, the compile environment we used was Windows 7, so it's possible it isn't linking right to the XP DLL files, working on getting another build together to test, probably at least a week out on that.

Need some help spreading the word on Embargocoin, we have reached the 500 EBG per block production and will only go down from here.  Block rewards halve approximately every 90 days from here on out.  I think we have potential that is being untapped at this point.

Not sure exactly what was going on, but I built the wallet on a new VM with QT 5.2.1 and it appears to work in XP now, I have updated the wallet download links and the new wallet should work for all Windows versions now. 

I will check this out 2day :)

I find it funny, Embargocoin is one of the few non scam legitimate coins out there with a dev that isn't trying to scam anyone, but because I'm no internet Hype machine we get no notice.   Embargocoin is still active and the pools are still running and the network is still running.  I am not abandoning this coin and hopefully our time in the spotlight will come.  I've been extremely busy with other projects of late and unfortunately haven't been able to devote as much time to the coin as I would like so if anyone in the community would like to help out I would love some additional help.  But I still stand by the coin and believe we are undervalued at this point.

Yeah, I'm hoping with all the scams lately people will try to find more stable coins with honest devs to invest in.

This coin is a very slow coin by design and it takes 220 blocks before coins are generated and available for payout.  Once 220 blocks have passed from the block you have shares in and were credited for, the coins will be available for withdrawal.

I agree, the concept behind it is fascinating.  I am unable, unfortunately, to get a hold of a connection, so my wallet can't load.  I hope maybe more people will come to see it as an interesting alt-coin and run their wallets.  It'll never be a major crypto, but I think it's unique enough that it could last in the peer-to-peer market.

It needs to survive a period of no listing, yet low-diff SHA miners maintain chain integrity.

But yes the block speed and age and mining-algo make this chain well placed for  important blockchain functionality.
