Was just sending an email from my corporate email...and noticed a new pop-up inside the gmail compose box...It is now allowing to send $ through email.  Have you guys seen or tried this?

I doubt Google is planning on being left in the dust by bitcoin...they are definitely either contemplating its integration, or trying to create their own I am sure...

Do you have a screenshot?  I don't see anything, although I assume they are rolling it out in stages.

My comp won't let me screenshot it :(.   It is because I have to be hovering over the area with my mouse in order for the "$" to pop up.  When I go to do a screen shot it disappears...

Hit "compose new message"   then hover your mouse cursor on the "+" sign at the bottom of the message box, and a camera icon, and "$" sign will pop up...

Do you already signed up for Google Wallet?

I get several icons, but none of them are $.  Insert files using Drive, Insert Photo, Insert link, Insert emoticon, and Insert invitation.

Don't ask me why Photo is capitalized.

Such coin wont replace bitcoin  :)

There you go...I couldn't screen shot it for some reason.   It popped up new for me today...it also had a pop up message telling me that it was new... maybe you got it way ahead of time...

it's been here for a while, didn't notice it altough I use gmail but I read about it way back..

would be cool if an add on could be made so that you could click there to attach BTC or LTC

It's not bitcoin, I think they've been working on this for a while and the recent Facebook announcement, just made google get to next gear

According to google it's only available for US citizens right now.

Of course google is going to try to come up with their own way of smooth internet transactions.

Wonder how long until we start getting charged google tax?  lol

Theres no bitcoin feature but there is a $ feature

I faked the Bitcoin sign for laughs. Dollar sign is real but for USA accounts only.

I haven't seen it , if they really launch it , It could be nice feature for us

You just click "Print screen" button on the keyboard and C + V into Paint or any other program and there you have a screen shot of it. If i understand it right that should work. ;)

also check out the 'snipping tool' within windows

As people already said it's only available in the US, and I don't know if it's available for all accounts even if you're from there.

Well, it's not really a competition. The system will probably be very limited and it'll be hard implementing it in the rest of the world due to tax laws etc.

Ok that's more like it ^^, I guess they want to have a google wallet integration with email, not a bad idea when you have a strong ecosystem, but the security needs to be increased, Google has a head start on Facebook on this domain, I hear people wanting bitcoin on Amazon but if there is a company that would be interessted in the protocol, and open source it is google, why no one thinking about them

I think it is a super convenient option to be able to send money through email. Google pretty much owns the world now unfortunately

well we will see how it will workout for them, it will depend if they are going to add complementary services to google wallet, to make something that competes with paypal

yes there is an automate reading your mails and thanks to keywords and alghorithms ads are displayed for you in gmail, no one sees your emails and no sensible data is stored somewhere else, also they are clear about it, unlike some competitor that went all scroogled ads and then was found to be doing worst things

Yeah, it's getting scary how much control they have. I like their search engine and their email service, nothing else though.

...and it is becoming more and more public how they are continuously scanning our emails.   They say that it is for advertising purposes..but you know they obviously search for much more than that...

This photo is so fitting.   You have to admit though that they are so good at what they do, in terms of making things easy and convenient to use for everyone.   It is the best form of surveillance that they could ever hope for.   Google along with social media basically have the majority of the world freely volunteering all of their personal information.

They obviously don't, because if they do and it leaks out their whole business model will fall to pieces that's part of the reason why they are transparent about it

What do you mean that they don't? That openly admit that they are scanning users emails for advertising purposes.

If one of these major tech companies start their own virtual coin that is much more easily accessed by the masses unlike Bitcoin and other coins, then the old Cryptocurrency world as we know it could collapse... Or they could become collectibles that are still worth something because people 100 years from now will be like "You have a bitcoin? Those are so ancient! Worth thousands of xxxcoins today!" but then the Bitcoin network could be down by then, who knows?


Yeah scanned by their computer programs and algorithms, they're not reading them out loud to themselves for fun. Google is a large company, most likely they have guidelines on the email process so that no non-admin can read the emails, which admins have access to just in case the government asks for information.

But think about it, there are over 400 million GMail users, you think they would really single you out, out of all the millions of emails sent every minute?

I don't think people would be more ready to accept GoogleCoins over bitcoins to be honest, they'll have a hard time marketing such a thing. Not to mention if they hoped to make it mainstream and launch it all over the world, all the law works etc would be massive.

We have a hard time to market such a thing. Google is a large company. No one was using their Google Plus product, but everyone was using their Youtube product. They needed more Google Plus members, so what do they do? Force it upon everyone.

If they get a bigger market using Google Wallet than paypal, all they have to do is do the same thing, force people to use their new xxxcoin and people will not be the wiser.

Plus if they make it easy and convenient to use, much like visiting a website, yet extremely secure, wouldn't you want to give it a try? Then when you find out it's more convenient than your old cryptocoins, you would be like, maybe I should just keep using it.

We have had a hard time due to mainstream society and people in general not being ready for such a technological step. I'm not saying Google doesn't have an increased chance at being successful, but they can't just do it overnight. It'd take ages for them to develop it, test it, make sure everything is alright to launch in every country etc etc. The people using Bitcoins don't really seem to care about those things. My point is it'd probably take several years for google to actually come up with something equal to bitcoins, and by then hopefully we've grown to a point where they won't be able to compete with us.

USD at the moment as it's only available in the US.

Will wait for that feature to be available in my country too. I'm excited to try it out. Although, I wish they can also add Bitcoins to that soon.

Sending bitcoins through email? Why not send bitcoins with your wallet?
