On reddit there's a discussion (http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/23flcn/bits_instead_of_%CE%BCbtc/) going on right now to nickname a microbit to a bit.

While I do agree that nicknames such as satoshis or even dorians are fine, (after all we use dimes, nickles and pennies as well), using 'bits' is far too confusing.

Therefore, I think we should come up with better names that do not sound like bit at all to avoid confusion.

Of course the words derived from 'millibit' like millies, or 'microbits' like mikes are nice, but something less dull could also be used, as long as the meaning is clear.

Stop spreading confusion and start using nice nicknames. There's a reason they didn't call dimes a dollie.

You can't simply "change" a name of something. People are used to what it's called right now, and therefore they won't use anything else. That will result in the majority still using the current name, and nothing will change.

there is no such thing as a current name (except maybe microbit), bit they are proposing a bit and it's gaining support.

To prevent confusion in the future it's best to stop this petition dead in their tracks.

No such thing as current name? There's a reason you used a name when making this thread, and that's because it's the established one. :)

I agree 'bit' is not a good idea, but at the same time, going around hunting for a name is not a good idea either. i think a universally accepted simplified name for ubtc will come naturally when the time is right. It may not even have 'bit' in it, like 'quid' to a British pound.

May be it will turn out to be 'u-bic', or 'cro-bee', you never know  :D

Throw me in the 'not-a-fan' category of bits.

As long as you don't use the word bits, people can't make that name happen. :D
