Title: Badly Translated threads in the Local Board
Post by: mitzie on April 21, 2014, 01:28:58 PM
At least in my Local Board (Greek) there is a bunch of threads that were translated with Google translate(bad syntax, the text makes no point at all, etc) and pasted in the Greek board, which most of the times the user leaves at the bottom a link to the original thread. I don't know what happens with other Local boards, but in our there are plenty threads like this.

My question is this: Should I report them? Because our moderator haven't posted any posting guidelines, and it is not clear if threads like this are prohibited. I suggested to theymos that I should write a guideline posting thread and some other things as well (our mod, Andreas Antonopoulos  :) :) , is offline for some time now and I haven't heard from him on this) but I have not got any reply.

I would also like to hear other Local board moderators's opinion about these threads (or how they handle them).

I hate all of them.
I'll probably delete every alt-announcement (even if it has a good translation)

I wouldn't delete them, but I would transfer them to a new child board (as we currently don't have one for altcoins on the greek board). I have suggested this to theymos as well..  Most of the local boards have a child board for alt announcements / discussion

I think Andreas is too busy and he doesn't have time to moderate forum, even logging in. In Turkish board we have altcoin subforum so I can deal with them easily. Greek board is not active as much as Turkish board, so theymos could refuse new subforum. What's general opinion of Greek members about altcoin threads? If people don't want them in Local board you should Report. Google translate threads also shouldn't be allowed in any board and you can Report them, too. I'm able to delete only newbie posts but I'd like to help you.

Another member has suggested a new child board to contain all alt-coin announcements. I understand that as a community we are not that active in the forum, but the main local board's point is bitcoin discussion/questions etc. And some nice discussions are burried under alt-coin announcements :( . I don't have a single problem with altcoin announcements, but bitcoin and altcoins should be in different boards, and not combined.

At this point I would lile to make clear that altcoin announcements are translated normally in our board, by users who accept to translate tje announcement and add it in their local board, in return for some coins by the coin developers, as a bounty

If people don't want them in Local board you should Report.

Members are fine, a few have complained and suggested to be moved. its just that they are altogether in one board, making the main board boring with all the announcements ;(

I reported about 15 posts with 100% accuracy. Thanks to badbear who handled them!
