Title: Open case designs for improved airflow?
Post by: bitcoindaddy on April 14, 2011, 01:08:22 PM
I've already taken the side off of my case which dramatically improved the GPU temperature. Have any of you use any open designs like the ones pictured here:

I have something against putting my motherboard on a cardboard box for some reason.

That picture is a tech station, there is a video on youtube about how rubbish the quality of material used to built it, all of that are plastic!, overpriced for me. If you have the tools it's better to built it yourself, there is some free open case design already available on overclockers.com forum.

Do you have a link to the free design?

I've also thought about using an Aluminum case tray, like this one: but I can't find it in stock anywhere:

Correction- found it in stock here:

I've tried half a dozen different cases for mining rigs, and the best one I've found is the Cooler Master CM 690 II: http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?category_id=19&product_id=2971.  Remove the lower drive bay and put in a high-flow fan like the Scythe Ultra Kaze or the one being sold on the forum here: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4336.0.

I don't like the idea of having the electronics exposed with a Tech Station.  All you'd have to do is drop a paperclip on it and you could potentially fry $1000 worth of hardware.

I simply screwed my mobos to a board made of timber, looks nice and the airflow is greater than in any case (literally ;)).

Nice. What are your core temperatures like?

It's always nice that the "NOOBIES" know whats BETTER
They STILL haven't learned ...YET ... or  "THE HARD WAY"
Dust, critters, ACCIDENTS mean nothing it's all just a game
WITH WHOSE MONEY

Put valued equipment it in a good inclosure !!!   Ventilate it !!!
lock it up from invaders (the wife & kids)

does PREVENTION mean anything ????

Invaders? My wife has her own Bitcoin miner.

bitcoindaddy, I use this exact tech station on one of my miners and have loved it. It has plenty of space and airflow is not an issue.

If really want a case that's open air there's the Antec Skeleton.

If you want it a little more enclosed but good airflow there's the Antec Lanboy.
