Hello.

It is really exciting to be here. I've heard of bitcoin for a few years now and finally decided I should take the first step so here I am now. Hopefully I can buy my first bitcoin from one of you folks within the next couple days.

Cheers!!!

Welcome.
You can find some bitcoin trades here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0, but you need to be careful with scams. ;)

I would try to purchase your 1st bitcoin experience on localbitcoins.com or some other popular site instead of this forum.

I hear countless amount of scams like the person above me linked.

If you dont trust anyone on localbitcoins.com the next best place to buy it would be coinbase.

Or bitstamp if you're not american. Bitstamp is very reliable IMO. Needs verification though.
If you want to be sure you don't get scammed, you buy the bitcoin with cash, face to face with the seller. You hand the cash over when the transaction is confirmed.

Thanks for the tips. I'm surprised i found someone locally on here so quick so I'm a little relieved to be able to meet up and do an in person purchase. No risk of online fraudsters getting me. Yet.    ;D

It is always good to do in person trades, just don't meet the trader in your home lol. :D

Actually, that's good advice.  There has been at least one robbery when buying bitcoins in person.   Can't find the link though.   :-\

Welcome to the forums!

I think for first time BTC buyers, it doesn't get any easier than Coinbase.com.

Good to have you here.  Don't rush into a tranaction with just anybody for your first coin.  Also try and see if your near a Bitcoin ATM to avoid the hassle of being scamed. Best luck finding a Bitcoin on this forum if that is what you decide to do.

Being around this forum definitely makes you a little jaded. It makes you think that almost everyone is a potential scammer, because of all the horror stories floating around.

Bitcoin core is indeed the same as bitcoin-qt.

For version on and before 0.8.6, the client is called bitcoin-qt.
Starting from version 0.9.0, the client is called bitcoin core.

I just noticed this, trying to go to the app store and searching for one.

How come apple took block chain`s app wallet. Do they not support bitcoin?  :'(

Most companies are supporting bitcoin, I`d figure they would be one of the many to adopt it 1st, outside from overstock.com, tigerdirect, etc.

Yeah, pretty much every bitcoiner was disappointed in Apple.

and this is main difference :D

If someone is telling me that he is using Bitcoin-Qt I think that he is using 0.8.x

If I see Bitcoin-Core - I see 0.9.x :)
