Title: How did my friend get Banned from this forum?
Post by: chrissibel on April 24, 2014, 07:18:13 PM
Please help my friend "DailyArsenal"

For some reason his bitcointalk.org account has been banned from posting or PMing. He contacted me via email to get some help on this issue as he as already tried to appeal the ban. He doesn't even know the reason he got banned. He doesn't troll or spam at all.

Anyone know why this would happen and how can he get the ban lifted?

Indeed he was playing against the forums rules.

This is one of his threads : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=579811.msg6335081#msg6335081

Don't you know giveaways are not allowed in this form? Forcing members to post their wallet address to give them some coins is not allowed.

I think that explain a lot to you.

Oh he didn't know that. He said he did that because he saw others do similar things and figured it wasn't doing any harm since he did in fact send out free doge to those ppl. Do you know how he can get the ban removed?

Banning is good punishment but I personally think you should use several types of banning ..

1 day ban
1 week ban
1 month ban
Lifetime ban

I know it would be more work for your - moderators, but if someone has well established account and username, lifetime ban should be very strict for some "minor" rule break

They do use time-period bans. Someone was banned for just a week a week ago.

Oh, I didnt know ;)

Fortunately I was not banned yet ;) Well in such case its more fair if there are multiple ban types.

There's only 2 (well 3 but one isn't really involved with that aspect) people who can temp ban, so it's less common.

Rules are rules.

What if your friend 'accidentally' killed somebody? Should it be worth it then, since he didn't mean to?

Indeed, ignorance of the law is no defence in any country (the parallel being ignorance of the rules of a forum).
