Yes It could feel so terrible knowing that you "have" 50 bitcoins and they are truly yours but you can't use them. That's a pain in the head really, happy i don't have a problem like this and probably will never have   :)

Though it's relatively small to the guy who lost 640k in btc, that was due to gambling, whereas this was due to negligence and carelessness.

i lost 7000 in doge once, and it still brings me to madness when i think of it

7000 Doges is something like 0.01BTC around ... :) it is a pint of a beer :)

Guess it depends on how much you have after the loss, and how hard you earned that bitcoin.
It would be really painful if he earned it through solving captchas for weeks. :)

That's why I always write passwords  in my day planner and keep a copy of my wallet even when it is empty.

It might be possible to recover it from flash memory. I remember losing a file from my usb thumbdrive once and I ran a file recovery program and I was able to find it again.

Your not a true bitcoiner until you destroy some bitcoin.  Or I should say you haven't experienced all bitcoin has to offer until you've lost access to a wallet. 
When I first used blockchain on my phone I didn't write down my backup phrase and proceeded to lose about 54 cents worth.  Thank goodness I didn't lose more.  I should have send an even smaller test transaction, but whatever.

Does losing them on MtGox Count?

Some don't remember last time they lost 10k$ or even last time they lost 100k$, everything is relative

Well both my loss and getting Goxed are the result of stupid mistakes, however, my mistake was the result of a one time poor choice.  Mistakes like sending coins to a non existent address or losing a password are the result of stupid errors made in a split second. 

People who got goxed should have seen it coming a mile away. There were weeks if not months where it was very clear you should have gotten your coins out of there. 

They aren't the same type of mistakes, but I guess the feeling is almost the same, and you learn similar lessons, so I will say, yes it counts.
