Title: Average speed of GPU generating bitcoins.
Post by: drgr33n on April 14, 2011, 06:35:50 PM
Hey guys,

I've been trying to get my head around this all afternoon lol I've seen videos etc of people mining and most are saying they are generating around 150BTC a week. I know there are lots of external factors that affect this but on average how many kh's can lets say one Radeon 5870 achieve ?

Overclocked, I get 385kh/s from my 5870.

Overclocked to what speed? 950? Is your 5870 reference design based (ie with the turbine fan) and what temps are you getting with your card overclocked?

I would guess closer to 1k core. I would also guess reference design to allow for voltage increase.

We'll find out when he replies. At those speed for sure he's got either a) water cooling b) some crazy ass delta or scythe CFM monster c) fans always at 100%

But hey if they run stable at near 1K core I'd do it too :)

At stock speed you're looking at ~300MH/s. At core voltage, o/c to 925~950 is expectable on any given card. On my card, 925 is 350MH/s, 940 is 360MH/s, I haven't seen how far it can go yet. This is all with ram at 300MHz, -f1 and -w256 on win7

Why 256?  I heard 128 gives more MH/s

980MHz, fans at 100%.  89C core temps.  Higher temps than I'd like but I have a crappy case...  It's stable as a rock though and never throttles.  I'm going to be investigating case mods to try and get the temps down.

Edit: added another case fan and now are running 86C.

Another edit: backed out my changes to poclbm.  dropped 2MH/s but 2C as well.

Not sure if it is reference or not, but it has two standard fans.  No voltage increase.

Nice O/C on stock voltage. Crazy temps!  :)

At 950 (stock voltage) my fans are going 60% and I'm getting 60 deg core temps. This is with multiple cards mounted directly beside each other.

Wow, 60% fans and 60C?  My case must REALLY suck.  But, I'm down to 82C now with some mods.

I've around 72C  (room temperature around 20c) with zalmann gs1000, a nice case, 5870 stock voltage and clock (850gpu/1200vram).

Thanks for the tip, just found out it works better on mine as well.
