Title: [ANN] BitWrk 0.3.0 "Mercury" (Bitcoin-Friendly Marketplace For Computing Power)
Post by: indyjo on April 25, 2014, 05:56:19 PM
BitWrk 0.3.0 "Mercury" has just been released, featuring support for Blender 2.70 and efficient peer-to-peer data compression.

BitWrk is becoming a Bitcoin-friendly, anonymous marketplace for computing power. It has been discussed in this forum before (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179948.0).

The software is currently in alpha stage, but it already comes with support Blender, the open source 3D graphics suite. It is interesting for the Bitcoin community because it offers miners an alternative for generating income using their computing hardware.

Currently, you need to compile it yourself using Google's Go SDK. There is no support for real Bitcoin transactions yet, so feel free to try out the software... especially if you are also a Blender user.

Later this year there will be a closed Beta phase in which I am going to test payment integration, i.e. trading computing power for Bitcoins. Anyone interested in participating?

Update: For those who would like to try out BitWrk easily, there are now binary packages for Windows and Mac OS X on the release page: https://github.com/indyjo/bitwrk/releases/tag/0.3.0

I would love to participate in anything you may need tested. I just came across this now, and am going to try and promote it!

Drop me a PM or msg here if you need anything done! I could probably help out with some coding too if you need it.

Cheers,

MC

There is now a release candidate build for the next major release. I would love to get some feedback before going live with 0.4.0. I have been concentrating mainly on getting the Blender rendering use case to work smoothly, i.e. BitWrk is still not connected to the Bitcoin network in any way (though I managed to get some foundations for that done).

Please grab it at https://github.com/indyjo/bitwrk/releases/tag/v0.4.0-rc1, especially if you are a Blender user. There are at least two servers rendering for free at the moment. I strongly recommend using Blender 2.71.

Hey, thanks, I will do that!

Concerning promotion, there is a Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/BitWrk), a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/bitwrk), a Tip4Commit entry (https://tip4commit.com/github/indyjo/bitwrk) and the Github page (http://bitwrk.net).
