It is hard to break even with both sha256 and scrypt ASIC.
IMO, it is better to buy bitcoin/litecoin directly.

There is still money to be made mining.  Of course, the old adage applies.  The fastest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it in your pocket.

There is PLENTY of money in mining if you buy the right gear.

To tell people to NOT mine - is stupid.

You forget we need MINERS to create the coins???

says the shovel seller...  :D so if you think there's plenty of money to be made then why are you selling your miners? you forgot to mention right gear at the right price and not the kind that will never roi...

OP, don't waste your money on mining gear right now since it's a good time to buy coins directly..

+1
It is very hard for you to get profits with mining, even if you have very cheap electricity.

Buy btc gear. Not anything higher than 1w/ghs.

Go for 40nm or 28nm.

The question was:

What do you recommend, to buy mining gear for the coins based on SHA256 algo or scrypt ?

Not "is any mining profitable".

Once upon a time going the SCRYPT way meant big GPU rigs, aircon, high power bills. Now with the ASIC SCRYPT miners you have the option to go either SHA256 or the SCRYPT way.

The only time mining is worth while is if you have the power for when a coin starts out and be in the race for new ones. I started out mining back in mid 2011 and since them days mining is pretty much done for.

Right now to make 1 BTC your talking 18TH of sha power and this time last year you only needed aprox 80GH to 90GH at most to make this. And right now diff is growing at a stupid speed and the only oens making anything are corporate people. If you are mining my advise is stick to alt coins when they first come out mine them for a few days till the rewards drop on them or diff has grown. Take them coins to market and exchange once they are on markets and start trading them and learning how the market works.

Theirs far more money to be made on the exchange sites than their is mining now days unless you get in on the new coins right at the beginning of them.
