Title: Dinner with Friends- Dutch Pay with 3 Credit Cards?! :o
Post by: coindozer7 on April 30, 2014, 05:21:05 PM
I had a dinner at this Japanese Izakaya restaurant the other day with 3 other friends.
The bill came out about $70 + tip (around $80 total).
Normally we pay separately (aka Dutch Pay) if it's among friends here in the U.S.
I put in $20 in cash but none of my friends brought any cash, so they all put in their credit cards to pay for the meal.
That's 3 credit cards to pay for their $20 split!
My friends had no choice to pay with their cards since they didn't have any cash.
I thought to myself that if the restaurant accepted Bitcoin and all my friends had Bitcoin wallets then it would've been easier on both sides.
The owner of the restaurant doesn't need to pay the fees for 3 credit card transactions and my friends also don't need to share their information via credit card.

Second, I see a post at most restaurants of "Minimum of $10 for Credit Cards". So if I want to eat a dessert for $5 then I can't even purchase unless I  pay in cash. If the place has an ATM, it normally charges withdrawal fees for non-associated Bank ATM ranging from $1-$5. Bitcoin would've even accepted a penny charge of the food or drink!

It will be our job in the Bitcoin community to educate both merchants and consumers about Bitcoin.
- Most merchants accepting Bitcoin
- Bitcoin ATM machines at more locations
- More people carrying their own Bitcoin wallet.

It will definitely be beneficial to both merchants and consumers once Bitcoin becomes more widely used.

Please give me your thoughts about this.

How? Its like a penny. Swiping your card cost 25 cents + a % of the swipe to the merchant.

Yeah paying with credit cards for everyone individually is not very comfortable and if you need a min of $10 credit card, bitcoin would be a good solution there.
