Title: Shipping Options
Post by: kiba on July 27, 2010, 08:53:47 PM
I was thinking of selling my gameboy games collections that I never am able to play again. Then I realize that I didn't think about shipping.

Anybody got advice on what shipping options I should choose?

Use fixed rate postage boxes from the US Post Office.

If you do trade them for BTC, make sure to arrange the transaction through a middleman

There is an escrow thread on the forum that will help with that

I usually find that UPS is a better shipping option than the postal service.  It costs more than uninsured mail, but less than insured.

It depends on the value of what you are sending I suppose, for one or two games uninsured might be better, but for quite a few you definitely want insurance.  I also have found that UPS is much less likely to lose packages (presumably because they do insure them)

Doesn't the US government track all packages and shipping?  Wouldn't they notice if a bunch of packages where shipped to or from a particular address without any corresponding traceable money transactions?

What is the best way to ship goods anomalously/untraceable?

Lysander Spooner once tried to set up a mail service competing with the post office....

Agorist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agorism) (market-anarchist) activists in New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project (http://freestateproject.org) are attempting to try that again with Spooner Delivery (http://spoonerdelivery.com/)!  From their webiste (http://spoonerdelivery.com):

"Spooner Delivery provides wide-ranging agorist logistics services to residents of the Shire. It's our goal to offer the quickest, friendliest and most competitively priced deliveries in New Hampshire.

To request services, please call 202.742.6834 or e-mail us."

But they are just in their infancy and probably only operate in and around Grafton, New Hampshire.  I wish them the best of luck and hope they don't get shut down by the Feds like what happened to libertarian-superhero Lysander Spooner.

But seriously, does anyone know of any useful techniques for to ship goods with some degree of anonymity and untraceability?

There are a lot of reasons one might choose to ship a lot of packages without money being involved.  There's also nothing illegal or even suspicious about conducting barter through the mail.

Umm...haven't you heard of the United States Postal Inspection Service (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Postal_Inspection_Service), whose purpose includes "protect the nation's mail system from criminal misuse".  And haven't year heard that not reporting taxes on goods or services is a crime?

I don't believe Kiba suggested he was going to avoid taxes.

What is with this paranoia? He doesn't need to worry about getting in trouble for mailing a bunch of Gameboy games. The government does not try to correlate every package with a payment.

My apologies.  I jumped to a conclusion.  Maybe Kiba doesn't mind paying taxes (I guess he could use the market rate for bitcoins for calculating his tax liability).  Or maybe Kiba wants to sell the games illegally and hope that the government won't care or notice.  I should have started a separate thread to discuss my concern, since it is off topic from Kiba's question.  Sorry.  I just assumed people using BitCoin for trade would naturally be agorists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agorism)/market-anarchists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-market_anarchism)/crypto-anarchists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crypto-anarchism) do to its properties of psuedonymity, security, lack of central authority, limited inflation, etc.

I am an anarchist too, but I don't think the IRS is going to hunt me for selling game boy colors thingy for "toy" money. ;)

Hey fellow anarchist Kiba, what was your luck trying to sell your gameboy games?  I'm thinking of selling my ps3 and all my games now to help boost bitcoin.  What should I use for shipping options?  Do you know what is the best place to advertise such a sale?
