Male members use female sounding usernames hoping to be treated differently. So which is which? We will never know for sure.

Not 2%. Much more than that. According to the data from Mt Gox, around 12% of the users who lost their coins / fiat were female. So we can assume that women comprise some 10-15% of the Bitcoiners.
