You need to contact theymos or a mod but you'll only be able to get it back if you can prove that it's your account by signing a btc address associated with that account etc. See this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0

Hey I didn't realize it was possible to recover an account in this way.  I guess it's important to go ahead and associate a btc address with this account so that if I ever do get it stolen, I could issue some proof that it used to be mine.

It's probably one of the safest and easiest ways to secure your account. Even if you make a post with your btc address and the person who gets ahold of your account edits or deletes that post, the admin can still see the edited/deleted post so it'll be obvious what has happened.

Yep, I can search for that my adress and it is associated in some quotes and messages to my account.

But however it takes long for theymos to reply to the PM ... :-(

I'm sure he will eventually or will see this thread. If you can prove the account is yours with an address then you should be fine. If you don't get a response after a while either just bump this thread or PM another mod and see if they can help you out.

Theymos is the only person who can help with the recovery of your account, so you need to wait.

(no need to report this topic, because none of us mods can help you)

Also theymos isn't recovering accounts anymore. Too many users here (including me) gave theymos enough valid proofs and signed addresses, but he doesn't care about it. Forget your lovely account! :(

I can't understand theymos, why he isn't recovering any accounts or why he doesn't react on any message.

Has he actually said he won't, or has he just not replied yet? I guess he's pretty busy as he doesn't seem to reply to much stuff here or messages, and while account recovery is a top-priority for you it's probably not for him.

He hasn't replied. Sure he is busy, but i can't understand why he provides to recover hacked / stolen accounts IF you can proof that you are the owner (I can) and then doesn't answer / react on any request.

the easiest way is just to forget about your last account and use a new one

But if s/he can sign a btc address associated with the account, it shouldn't be too hard to get back!

It is hard! Because theymos doesn't care about "Please recover my account" PM's!

Just bumping this for anyone else who is reading it -- associate a BTC address with your account before its too late!

Thanks I've been delaying.  Preciate the reminder.  Going to do it today :)

Think a sticky needs to be made or when registering a account that it requires you to put in a bitcoin address for security reasons.

Linking a btc address with your acct is fraught with the risk of inadvertently revealing your identity
Make sure the email you link with it cannot identify you

You could use an address that is created solely for this purpose, ie. You don't use the address to receive bitcoin.
Then there wouldn't be any privacy or anonymity problem.

Unless people are stalking all of your payments or you are completely paranoid about your anonymity, having a single address linked to your account isn't really going to compromise your privacy - after all you can simply create a new address and have your coins mixed and sent to that address. Depending on how many iterations of mixing you go through it'll near to impossible to actually work out where the coins went.
