Great intro book, thanks.

Is there a cheap stable hardware solution for somebody who doesn't plan on mining for profit, but just wants to set up a local node to help improve confirmation times and would a cheap easy device like that be an overall benefit to the network?

First, you could buy a AntMiner U2 if you just want to try out mining without profit, it's quite cheap.
If you want to set up a bitcoin node, try this simple and cheap guide: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/24rkzq/launch_a_full_bitcoin_node_on_digital_oceans/
A local node does not improve confirmation times.
If you are mining, you are contributing to the network by securing it, but we are like in a shortage of full bitcoin nodes right now.

Hey, I just wanted to say keep doing what you're doing. It's an awesome service. I'm curious as to if you plan to transition it into something people pay for later, though, or you're just doing it as a charity.

I don't plan to ask people to pay for it, I want to keep it free :)

However, If I start doing well, I might just ask anyone if they would like to sponsor a page relevant to the book,
but if I do/don't get any sponsor(s), it's still going to be free.

You can throw your book up on Amazon for free as well. That could help bring in more people that are interested in mining (and might also help you when/if you decide to sell ads within the book).

Good introduction, maybe the font is a little ugly (i definetly prefer font w/o serif)

And the written "for noobs" in the title is not so visible, it get mixed up with the pics in the background

I downloaded the book, finally got a chance to read it, and was a tad disappointed. Very little meat to your 4 step directions. While I know you could probably write a whole book on each step (and you're giving it away for free), I was really hoping for a little more depth. As a newbie, just those steps can be very confusing.

I should make a revised edition soon.
