Who is the most influential/famous/relevant/overall most important person in history in your own opinion? It's widely known that Jesus Christ is the most famous according to statistics, searches, believers, etc, but in your own opinion, who do you think the most famous/influential/important person is?

In what context is this definition of importance to be taken in i.e. collective importance or individual importance? If the answer is collective importance then is it a select group that benefits or the whole? Is this a misleading question that plays on peoples guilts for actually believing that they are in fact the most important person?

Now that the "knowledge" that they are the most important person is loaded into short-term memory they cast a vote and it tells a lie about who they "believe" the most important religious figure is.

Now you've got a whole group of Bitcoin forum users who lie about religious figures and think they're the most important people ever.

Even if you are not religious person there is no doubt of Jesus influence on whole world was the greatest of all people. You can't deny it.

Voted for Albert Einstein. Prophet Mohammed and Jesus Christ are only important for people from specific religions. But Einstein was the one who made everyone's life better.

If Christianity is weighted so heavily here then Constantine should be included. If not for him you would likely know as much about Jesus as Mithra or Zoroaster. Remember the Bible of western civilization is a government produced document.

yeah myself am religious,  but Jesus teachings are in a different level then the other figures,  Im kinda happy to see that people know that Jesus is significant to us.

I think all are important in the history and on our religions.But for me Jesus is the most impostant person ever and second Einstain .

If you want a religious figure what about someone like Mother Theresa who's accomplishments were documented in modern times? We don't have to rely on/believe hearsay from thousands of years ago to know what she did, unlike half the other people listed.

Significance of Jesus is far greater most of the people are willing to admit. He is reason western civilisation is what it is today. You don't have to be christian, you don't have to believe he was something more than a man. It does not matter. His teachings shaped our way of thinking forever.

First you have to establish what criteria to apply. I guess most people will agree that a person is important if he had a positive impact on the life of many others. Probably, saving lives or improving them considerable is a consensual criteria.

So, negative people, like conquerors, war mongers, and others, must be excluded. Even important people like Columbus, should be excluded, since its discoveries provoked millions of deaths on indigenous people between wars and diseases.

I prefer also to leave aside religious people, since they are controversial. Many had an important positive impact, but some were also cause of wars, executions, repressions, terrorism, etc. (I know, excluding religious people is very controversial also).

Also people of great intellectual impact must also be excluded if their thoughts didn't cause a direct practical improvement on the life of others (so forget about Einstein, Darwin, Plato, Aristotle, etc.; and even Newton or Galileo).

I also think artists didn't improve life enough (they shore help a lot, but...), so forget about Mozart, Beethoven, the Beatles or even Da Vinci.

What do you mean that they did not do anything for you? They are the reason why our society is like what is is today, Christ influence created whole Western Civilization. His teachings are fundamental for our society. Of course Jesus can't give you food or shelter you but his existence had great impact on everyone living now.

Contrary to others, I have no doubt that Jesus is a historical figure (there are enough historical documents about him). But seeing him as human and God is basically a decision of Constantine. Since all roman emperors were considerer divine, Jesus couldn't be less than that. But even in the Gospel of John there is no clear trace of his divine nature.

The most important person ever is the one who does all the work in the background while somebody else gets all the spotlight. Think of the Linus Torvalds of the world -- a lot of people have never heard of him, but you might know about Linux.

I think historically the most important person is Jesus Christ, there are still thousands of churchs and millions of believers around the world, even after 2,000 years. If we had can count the times the word Jesus is said every day you would be sure whos the most important person of that pool, i dont think after 2,000 years the people will even remember albert einstein or satoshi, in fact satoshi should have been eliminated already, many people know about bitcoin but almost nobody knows the "history" about satoshi nakamoto.

Sure, maybe millions have died in his name, but this doesn't necessarily have to be "the most important person ever" only for good reasons. :P

And of course, there is always the part about religion more often than not being used as an excuse; the population in general might be true believers, but they were/are just being used to further someone's worldly power/access to resources. In this sense, religion is just another tool to be used, not the cause.

I think you should allow us to choose by ourselves, and nominate any person we feel is most important.
If I have to choose between just this 4 persons, I will say Jesus because his message of love for others and that God s our Father is something what goes beyond any particular religion, nationality or race.

Actually, it seems that most historical scholars agree that Jesus did actually exist, though there is disagreement to what extent the events recorded in the bible reflect the actions of the man. After all, that part of the bible started being written several decades after Jesus' death (some 40 to 80 years after he died), and most importantly, it was never intended to be an historical record as it is understood today: it deals with something called sacred history. That is, instead of focusing on recording events as they happened, it records what they believed the persons involved were like, if necessary then creating a story around them to illustrate it.

Jesus and Mohammed have probably led to more deaths in their name than people they have saved.  If you put them on the short list Hitler and Genghis and Alexander should be on that list.

At first I was really surprised to find Jesus Christ as the winning choice. But actually this may in fact be the case. A lot of people live their lives 'according to him' and see him as their saviour. Thus he really is an important person, whether he ever existed or not. The mere concept has changed many lives already. Frightening what religion can do...

By that logic, one could easily argue that all those resources and lost lives could have easily been used to boost our technology level instead, allowing us to have even more advanced technology now. :P

I wish we could do this thread with poll without people in it who were  religious leaders. Arguing which religion is better is pointless and It will always bring some sort of conflict upon us.

i agree.. There are many very important ppl, or leaders in our history. For one to take more importance than another is very hard, as they all have their own roles, as we have our own. Throw in religious leaders and this thread could turn into a shit slinging match or perhaps an all out war by the 6th page..

Since I was not a believer, Mohammed and Jesus Christ is not my role model, Albert Einstein for me the most important person in the world :)
