My $100 profit switched to a $100 loss, I bought more at 5.15 and I'm already back to a $50 profit.  Learn 2 not overleverage.  I do have pity though, I've had more than one loss of over $100... you've got to lose to really learn your lesson.

Yes this is so true, I don't think I'll ever go above 2.5 leverage again. EVER.

MtGox trading FTW.  Bitcoinica FTL.  I'm very sorry for your losses guys.  I'm definitely staying away from bitcoinica from here out.

Holy shit at least I don't have a negative balance. Thought bitcoinica's "new algorithm" was supposed to reduce the spike liquidations but it doesn't seem that way at all. I don't think I'll ever use bitcoinica again.

Lost $46.00. I had just bought 100 btc at what I thought it was at the bottom.

Then she tanked, and panicked sold.  With the little profits I made before, down to $27 net.

Glad I am just playing small amount. At 1000 BTC that would of been a very bad loss.

margin trading is the greed variable, it creates greed, it literally shouts GREED IS GOOD !

Despite this I will honour my debt, although I would hope that they can find a way to prevent the account balance from going negative

I am sincerely sorry you lost so much.  But, yeah, bitcoinica has added an extraordinary amount of risk to something that is already extraordinarily risky.  I got tempted in to try it out and lost the very small amount I put in.  I'm sorry for anyone who lost significant amounts.

My name is znort987, I am long on bitcoin.

I haven't lost a single bitcoin in the recent action simply because:

    - I never exchange my BTC for fiat currencies
    - I do sometimes get rid of fiat currency by buying BTC
    - I never trade BTC against fiat currencies
    - I only use BTC to sell and purchase tangible items (and also sometimes grant BTC-only loans).

In other words ... BTC could go down to US$0.01 or shoot to US$100,
and I couldn't care less: fiat currencies are useless pieces of toilet paper.
+1

My approach to BTC is quite similar right now and will continue to be until I see a big enough reason to think otherwise. Because of the news about Euro today I'm again considering increasing my BTC position and the fact helps that I think coins are cheap right now.

Cheer up, and never surrender.

I gained BTC 300 by surfing the spikes, but I'd say overall I lost because Bitcoin itself lost a lot of credibility last night. Bears should rejoice. If they want to drive Bitcoin's value to zero, that's the way to go.

I agree, this was a step back for Bitcoin. But I strongly believe that it's a temporary setback. The important thing is that people explain the situation to everyone who laughs at what happened, explain Bitcoinica and tell them that they are going to do some changes to make this more difficult in the future. It won't fix what happened but it will help.

It sounds like you all need a smart phone. I use TeamViewer (since 3g sucks) to connect to my computers and take my charts/highspeed net everywhere.
It won't help with a spike like last night, but it may give you a fighting chance.

Bought 200$ @ $2.5 last year, it maintained its value while I spent about 30-50$ every few weeks on various things, got the leftovers up to 350$ on bitcoinica then got greedy with leverage.  If only I'd stuck to 2.5:1 like I planned  :'(
