Title: Is Russia really pro-Bitcoin? Or is RT just acting as controlled opposition?
Post by: protokol on May 08, 2014, 07:45:57 PM
OK, so I've seen a lot of articles proclaiming Russia's anti-bitcoin stance, but Russia Today seems to be extremely pro-Bitcoin.

But aren't they controlled by the Kremlin?

I would say either RT is acting like "controlled opposition" here, appearing to allow pro-Bitcoin reports to undermine the US+Western regulations, or Russia itself is pro-Bitcoin. My money's on the former.

Discuss.

Max Keiser is not really representative of RT as a whole. Max just uses his show to pump all kinds of things (precious metals, 'maxcoin' etc.).

If you listened to max when he first told you to buy crypto, you would be shitting Fiat right now.

And if you stopped listening to him the past couple of months, you would have a lot more money. He just repeats the same nonsense over and over.. He is in denial on the bear market in precious metals as well.

I think Keiser really appreciates (still) the elegance of crypto technology and how it could theoretically change world economics for the better. He blatantly does do some pumping and dumping IMO however (well it's already made him rich, right?) And he can get very dramatic (that's one of the reasons I enjoy watching his shows though tbh hehe).

But I'm not just talking about Max Keiser - most of the Bitcoin articles on RT online are pro, yet the Russian's officiial stance is still anti, amirite?

RT is directed mainly for westerners, not Russians. They want westerners to get screwed, so the promote bitcoin to them. They want their own people to stay away from bitcoin.

This^^

RT is just playing to their crowd. Western 'guns n silver' libertarian types that don't like their own ruling establishments very much and Bitcoin is very much part of that paraphernalia.

Russia has already made its stance very clear on Bitcoin. They have stated that all economic transactions within the Russian Federation must be done in Rubles. Thus Bitcoin transactions in exchange for goods n services are illegal in Russia. I seem to remember them also going after BTC-e which is the only exchange that done BTC trades in Rubles. For a short while, BTC-e took down the option to deposit Rubles into trader accounts.

RT is just the Russian version of Voice of America. That is, a propaganda medium. It's still fun to watch what they occasionally have to say, but keep mind that there's still tons of propaganda going on between the West and Russia. Especially this incident:

There is no ban on Bitcoins in Russia. Here are the proofs:

1. A number of Bitcoin exchanges operate within Russia, and many have Russian bank accounts.
2. Localbitcoins operate within Russia without any restrictions.
3. So far the Russian authorities have not prosecuted anyone for using Bitcoins or other Bitcoin-related stuff.

As a person who has a couple of friends in Russia, who use PCs for mining I can tell you that there are no strict rules against bitcoin. They told me that there are some difficulties in exchanging it for cash, but nothing more than that.

Difficulties in exchanging the coins for cash? It is not that difficult. Localbitcoins is very active in Russia with thousands of users. However, bank withdrawals from BTC-E takes a lot of time.

+1

Exactly. Every medium says what pays off. Western media depends on western type of commercial capitalism, Russia today depends on russian establishment. They are pro bitcoin because it weakens western money power. Smart tactics.

also Putin said many times, that there are people who want to unite world under the dominance of USA and that He will never allow unipolar world.
USA in this case is instrument used by globalists and Russia just acts in anti clobalist manner.

i think russia is on the same stance as many countries, in the end russia will also be friendly to bitcoins..

regarding RT, I got to  tell you, if there are some who became super rich by watching news channel, then it has got to be they watched RT...because they supported bitcoins and asked to buy them, but a lot did not and are now feeling sad for it.

be thankful to rt for promoting bitcoin..

that is because it is not a bear market in precious metals right now. it is instead a manipulated depressed market right now. there is a big difference between these two things.
