Title: We’ve won for now -- SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress

The largest online protest in history has fundamentally changed the game.  You were heard.

On January 18th, 13 million of us took the time to tell Congress to protect free speech rights on the internet. Hundreds of millions, maybe a billion, people all around the world saw what we did on Wednesday.  See the amazing numbers here and tell everyone what you did.

This was unprecedented. Your activism may have changed the way people fight for the public interest and basic rights forever.

The MPAA (the lobby for big movie studios which created these terrible bills) was shocked and seemingly humbled.  “‘This was a whole new different game all of a sudden,’ MPAA Chairman and former Senator Chris Dodd told the New York Times. ‘[PIPA and SOPA were] considered by many to be a slam dunk.’”

“'This is altogether a new effect,' Mr. Dodd said, comparing the online movement to the Arab Spring. He could not remember seeing 'an effort that was moving with this degree of support change this dramatically' in the last four decades, he added."

We're indebted to everyone who helped in the beginning of this movement -- you, and all the sites that went out on a limb to protest in November -- Boing Boing and Mozilla Foundation (and thank you Tumblr, 4chan)! And the grassroots groups -- Public Knowledge, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Demand Progress, CDT, and many more.

Sweet. But I'm still cutting my consumption of proprietary music and movies by %50. It's not like Hollywood produces much worth stealing anyway.

Awesome, now the wait for POPA, or SIPA.

The stuff I get I never would have bought anyway.

Ron Paul called it the "Stop Online Gambling Act" during a speech earlier today. The first sign of cluelessness I've seen from him.

Yeah agreed. I'll simply go without, myself.

It seems to me the MPAA gang want to stop illegitimate access to their shit, and they believe they will get more money if only they control distribution and price. I can accept that, and I think that's fair, as long as they will refund me for paying for and being disappointed by shit movies. Otherwise I'll just continue ignoring what they produce and do one of the million other things I can do with my time.

Flip-pro, we've already established you ignore all sources of info that conflict with your preconceived notions. Please stay out of discussions about ron paul unless you are providing more out of context one-liners that require debunking.

SOPA and PIPA shelved for now yes but ACTA has been signed by USA in october and yesterday by the EU.. think of it like a global SOPA/PIPA.

Here's a snip "Opponents also criticize ACTA's removal of 'legal safeguards that protect Internet Service Providers from liability for the actions of their subscribers' in effect giving ISPs no option but to comply with privacy invasions"

Countries that have signed ACTA are:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States

As for FlipPro, I registered at your tweetforum and started posting only to find out you're a Paul hater, ugh, so I wont be posting there anymore.
Heh, the only post I made was about Ron Paul.
