Hey that video put the word "millibitcoin" into context with me. Of course I know what it is but I've never heard it in a sentence before. So when I wrote an email this morning I told my friend "It would be so much easier for me to ask for a few millibitcoin instead of having to give my mailing address bla bla bla.."

Really is wierd.  Makes you think how'd it really be like to buy $20 worth of Bitcoin from a buyer through Mycellium stoned.   :D

This video did something to my instance of VLC. If displayed the first frame and did nothing. I could not quit the application or load other videos. I had to force-kill it.

This suggests it may be a wallet stealer exploiting VLC video parsing bugs. Not sure how/if YouTube trans-coding was avoided.
unable to reproduce

That was strangely satisfying. I've always wondered what it'd be like to take acid and buy Bitcoin. Now I know.

i love it when people are critical. but there are some misconceptions on many layers here.
first, youtube does not use VLC. it uses flash or html5. also, VLC should not be written in a way so it can be exploited by the data stream.

I mainly posted that in case others are seeing similar problems. If I really want to know, I should manually download the file and analyze it (don't really have time/expertise at the moment).

Around 2006, every major OS had severe bugs discovered in their image handling libraries as fuzzing techniques become popular for testing software. As you can imagine, video is even more complex; and likely not any better tested.

Edit: I also trimmed "&nonce=42" from the url; not sure what it was.
Edit2: for shits&giggles, I tried it again, and was not able to reproduce the error.
