However, it’s now common for teams to show up unexpectedly at someone’s home late at night to search for these recordings,” the source reported. I know back in the Kim Il Sung days that guilt by association was extremely prevalent in that one's cousins, parent, aunts/uncles grandparents would all go down in the event of one getting pinched for anti-state crimes. And, they'd all either be executed or sent to political prisons or labor camps for decades if not life. Being banished to the mountains is almost just as bad considering you have a hard time finding food and water plus most of the trees have been taken down meaning it'll be hard to get fire wood. Mind you, this happens fairly often during these crackdowns but to see it happen in the capital, is quite rare. These people living there usually have ties to the party organs or have reliable bloodlines that go back to the fighters in the revolution against Japan occupation, so they usually live fairly decent lives compared to the rest of the country.
