Title: How much cash do you carry?
Post by: sclaggett on May 13, 2014, 03:14:17 PM
Today the Washington post wrote an article titled "Whats in your wallet? " http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/05/12/whats-in-your-wallet-probably-not-cash/ (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/05/12/whats-in-your-wallet-probably-not-cash/).  No reference to Bitcoin but it clearly supports the notion that paying with or carrying cash is a thing of the past for most.  People simple want to pay by swipe of a card or touch of a mobile device.  Enter virtual currencies to replace that cash.

So how much cash is in your wallet?

How much bitcoin is in your "Hot" wallet for payments?

I only use electronic payments online because there's no other choice.

I don't need no purchase/spending history to follow me around for life.

I only ever pay with cash and never use my Card except for getting cash from an ATM. Since I don't carry a Tracking device (Smartphone?), it's not easy for be to pay in bitcoin at Brick and Mortar stores. Sometimes when I got my Netbook in my bag and bitcoin is accepted, I ask if they provide internet access for people to broadcast their transactions of if they broadcast transactions for their customers.

I live in Germany and lots of people here pay with cash, though it slowly gravitates towards using some kind of card.
For online payments I usually use either bitcoin or cash on delivery.

About $100, unless I'm going to the casino / card room.

Not much, usually something like $20. I  preorder things online and pay using my online account, even if I'm planning to pick it up from the store. This way I pay immediately after shopping and can forget it. Probably the only 2 things I pay for with cash are cabs and food orders.

credit cards = taxes over transactions, paid indirectly by consumers.
I know two stores with really low prices, and none of them accepts credit cards

I usually keep 10-20 in notes in my wallet and some change in coins, but mainly use cards. No point carrying loads of cash round if you don't need it, especially when you can lose it. I hope one day I dont even need tthat and can pay with bitcoins on my phone though.

I very rarely carry cash. Most of the time ill have less then $5 on me at any given time(just enough to buy a coffee type of thing). Ill put everything else on the cc as it makes it easier to track what I spend my money on.

When it comes to bitcoin I keep about 0.5 in my hotwallet at any given time. Where I live there isnt really much I can buy with bitcoin so I use it more to give out a little when I find people that are interested in bitcoin(tend to give out about $5 when they show some interest).

It looks like the article was fairly accurate. I personally carry 20-40 unless traveling and then bump it up but credit and debit cards are basically accepted everywhere.

Have not had much need to use any BTC in a hot wallet yet.

People still carry cash, though not as much as they used to.

I use my debit card of things usually over $50, so I often keep a good amount of cash on me. I currently have $183 exactly in my wallet.

I use my credit card to pay for everything if I can.  I earn a tonne of rewards with it and pay off the balance every month. Also, using a credit card for bigger purchases, they carry extra insurance for warranty purposes.

I also carry about $100 bucks in cash with me at all times. Credit/Debit machines don't always work and even the card sometimes doesn't work in all machines.

Honestly I don't carry cash just my card and ID. If I go to a store that has the proper device to read my phone i'll use the ISIS app to pay with a credit card. Cash is just so gross lol

Normally, I don't carry more than $20 in cash. But I always keep my ATM card and Credit Card with me. But to tell the truth, sometimes I have faced difficulties after entering areas with no working ATMs or shops which accept CCs.  ;D

As with most people here, I usually have anywhere from 0 to €5 with me, and just use a card when I need stuff. There are very few places that don't accept them directly around here these days, and even for those that don't there are always ATMs at no more than a minute walk. It sucks to leave a trail for everything that you buy, where you buy it, at what time of day you do, etc.. but it's just far too practical.  :-\

I carry like $20 bucks at most, incase I need for some cash only place that wont accept cards.

This is mainly though mom and pop shops with eating out at some small place.

I prefer using my cc, but the cash makes me help the sense of how much everything really is in spending wise.

I try to carry at least $100 in cash with my in my wallet. Though, it isn't always the case. I don't really spend cash so much, I just like to have it on me.
