I just checked on my old long position (buying some BTC on margin) on Bitcoinica with the few bits I do have there and wanted to liquidate, but I got this error message:

"Unknown action

The action 'show' could not be found for PositionsController"

Nvm, looks like it is just a technical bug. Still would suck if I had a big position now and wanted to liquidate, however.

Err, this sounds like a bug, not like he's out of USD. It also sounds like you're overreacting.

He’s been out of USD for a few days now, as evidenced by the * on BUY (you can’t buy any Bitcoins because they are out of USD).

Sure, but that's something different from this bug you're getting.

The * implies people are want to go into long positions but cant do it. So you shouldn't have any problem exiting a long position.

Was just upset because this would be a disaster if I had a bigger sum and couldn’t liquidate it. I know why I left it at the small test amount now. ;D

Did you actually emailed Bitcoinica support regarding this case? Ranting about this here won't help much.

Speaking as someone who has been standing beside Zhou from day 2, watching it grow, hearing about all the issues and how they were being fixed (stuff that most people don't know about still) and discussing all the legal, business, marketing, partnerships, etc, it really annoys me to see people so ignorant as OP try to downplay all the work that's been put into Bitcoinica.

I cannot liquidate my position for a day now, watching the price decrease, although I’ve sent a support mail. Is this not zhoutong’s problem? Or is his business model based on zhoutonging people even with such methods?

Try CTL-F5.  This will refresh everything without cache.  I'm not seeing this issue.  Also, you could try placing a limit order to sell at slightly less than market prices.  That should close your position without using the liquidate button.

Thank you for the error report. However, I couldn't reproduce the problem under default settings of my browser.

Most likely you have disabled JavaScript. Because the Bitcoinica website is designed with REST principles, we send a DELETE method to the position URI to liquidate it. Modern browsers do not support this method yet without JavaScript.

Basically,

GET https://www.bitcoinica.com/positions/7625

and

DELETE https://www.bitcoinica.com/positions/7625

mean different things to our servers. If you use GET to retrieve the page, it will return an error because it's undefined.

Thanks zhoutong, the issue was indeed JS and I was able to liquidate now.

I apologize for overreacting before.

@zhoutong: in that case it would be helpful if the site shows a warning when user has javascript disabled. There are quite a few people that do that (either manually, or using NoScript extension) so it definately would remove some potential confusion.
