Title: DarkWallet Alpha3 Release
Post by: caedes on May 15, 2014, 12:22:46 PM
Featuring an experimental identity system, and lots of improvements both on the frontend (browser plugin) and backend (gateway, obelisk and libbitcoin), we present Alpha 3:

https://wiki.unsystem.net/index.php/DarkWallet/Alpha3 <-- Detailed release notes
https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/releases/tag/0.3.1
https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet/archive/0.3.1.zip

This is a major milestone since we're introducing our new identity system where now you can keep long term contacts and find them later in the crypto goo that is the stratum for our conversations, subject to change but valid for our current goals. Also big improvements in parsing stealth since that's now going to a background thread, and the gateway got some bug fixed that was making things very slow  should now be snappy also using our block explorer will be a new experience :).

Best Regards!!

Edit: Made a quick update release 3.1 fixing a small but annoying issue with identity pairing.

Edit 2: Still Alpha, don't trust with real bitcoins! You can try it on testnet.

If one of those addresses later happen to belong to someone else, then it's clear money has in one way or another moved from my hand to that hand. If you somehow think this is not the case for stealth addresses, go ahead and try to explain.

Are you guys going to implement BitID (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=556053.0)? It's a protocol written to enhance the experience for users on website. Instead of login in with Facebook, they can now login with their Bitcoin Address. The project seems to be going pretty well, so it might be worth considering.

The person you quoted was talking about the new Identity feature. So I assume this is referring to the Identity feature.

The Identity marker is based on your seed which is a random 32 byte integer. The chances of "one of those addresses late happen to belong to someone else" is very low, close to 0.

then it's clear money has in one way or another moved from my hand to that hand
If you had my seed, you would have all my bitcoins... sooooo, I don't think privacy would be a concern... losing all my bitcoins would be the concern. But like I said, the chances of having the same seed is close to 0.

If you somehow think this is not the case for stealth addresses, go ahead and try to explain.
Stealth Addresses? He was talking about Identity...

If you had my seed, you would also have the private keys to all my stealth addresses as well... so again, the problem would not be with anonymity, but with losing all your bitcoins.

I think maybe you are not an English native speaker? Could you try to explain what you're trying to say in detail? the more words you use, the more clues we have to go on when trying to understand you.

BTW, did you know that you can use the "Pack extension..." option in chrome to create a crx file?

Having it installed from a crx, the browser does not ask you all the time whether to disable a locally loaded extension.

Just a general question regarding DarkWallet, but I was wondering if it will always run off of a browser or if it will eventually be a standalone app?

I haven't been able to connect to the gateway in a few weeks now. Not ever since I upgraded to v 3. Any idea what's up?
Keeps saying wss://gateway.unsystem.net disconnected.

16 days ago lost $20 testing the "stealth addresses" in Dark Wallet (alpha 3) from one computer to another and it never arrived.   Checking blockchain it seemed to go to some unknown address. I wrote it off as a loss... I know, it's been warned not to play with real money...

Unsystem gateway went down for quite some time between this time.

Today, it finally registered to my account ledger indicating it was received 16 days ago.

Now worth $29 due to the Bitcoin rally.  Pretty awesome.   ;D
