Title: Neg rep. Trust abuse.
Post by: JeffK on May 15, 2014, 02:09:10 PM
Hello,

I bought this account for 0.3 BTC. I was previously a newbie who was tired of waiting for posting and like trading and buying and dealing with 5 mins PM was a nightmare.
I read on the forums buying an account as legal and accepted (as stated here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303414.msg3269475#msg3269475).

Funny thing is got neg repped by two members without any proof of anything. No one wants to trade coins with me and no one wants loans from me (even if I accept escrow). So account is pretty much useless.
I think there is an abuse of trust system here as I see Vod neg reps almost 3 persons per day. I haven't been looking their accounts but I suppose it's without a reason like to me.

What can I do?

Unfortunately there's nothing much you can do. The only sure fire way is to try work it out with vod and get him to remove it. Though buying/selling accounts is allowed, some people frown upon it and leave negative, so this is why people try keep sold accounts hush-hush.

Btw 0.3 is a steal for a Snr Account. They seem to go for double that.

Selling accounts is allowed because nobody can stop it effectively. The neg reputation from Vod informs everyone you aren't a long time member in these forums and that giving out a loan to you equals giving a loan out to a newbie. I don't see any abuse here, only a valid warning

Well with a neg rep their worth nothing.

He neg rep for buying, not for loan as I use escrow. Apart from that, you are saying if a newbie offers bitcoin services he should be neg reputation. Abuse is he leave aprox 3 neg rep per day and if he doesnt reach that number he neg rep randomly. Always members without trust so you cant give him back. Non sense.

No, I'm saying that he left the rep so nobody would be under the impression that you are more trustworthy than any newbie. It's pretty logical - not everyone knows that the account you are currently using was bought by a newbie. The loan was only an example of a possible situation.

I explained very well why I gave you the negative trust and you accepted my reasons. It may be allowed to sell accounts, however I see it as highly suspicious that anyone wants to buy/sell accounts.

It's a warning to other users. It's my opinion and whether or not others value my opinion or take my warning is another matter.

I've edited the trust so that it shows the amount it was purchased for. It seems I was right in submitting the trust in the first place as it seems you only purchased the account for trading coins and loans. Might I ask how can someone trust you if you are willing to purchase a account just to trade? Are you trying to deceive your customers in thinking that you have been here a long time? What was wrong with your original account? As long as you used escrow and provided a safe transaction with your customers any account would be fine.

I can understand the "warning" sign but as it is now, I'm passing like a scammer. Forum should add a neutral trust or something with acts as warning. I can't sell the account anymore and it's hard for me now to trade/offer services. Nevermind.

edit: why can't I see now on the left the red trust? I can only see it when I enter my profile

Only some forums show it, like marketplace forums.

Well, purchasing an account doesn't add trust. You have to create your own one and build it up, get rep in legitimate ways rather than expect to be considered trustworthy just because you bought an account.

I know it doesn't add trust, that was not the meaning of buying it. Should be added on the link where staff members says it's allowed to buy accounts that it not only not adds any trust, but it implies receiving neg rep from hero (never truer word) member. If I wanted to resell the account now, I shouldn't be needing to build a trust first.

I can understand you are flooded by scams here but I don't agree with neg rep first person you see that bought an account. In that case, newbies should start with neg rep too and start building their own.

You fail to understand what the negative rep means. Newbie with no rep = Sr. Member with trustworthy negative rep about buying the account. The fact it's negative doesn't mean anything - it's what's in the comments that matters. The negative rep implies that this person is not to be trusted until he gets positive feedback witht the timestamp later than the negative one. So this rating pretty much just resets any rep the previous owner had.

ok, let's leave it here. I understood your point but we both know its not exactly like you say. I was rejected from a free IPO that was adding sig for being a "scammer" so imagine when I will want to trade/offer services. I will try to build a rep, let's see how it goes. Thank you anyways for your time.

I left negative trust for a valid reason - you are a newbie pretending not to be a newbie.  This is worse than just being a newbie.

You portray yourself as someone who has invested time into this forum.  When in reality you're just looking for something to earn you more than you paid for the account - 0.3btc - and then you have no other reason to keep the account.  Buy another one, rinse and repeat.

If you want to build trust, start with a newbie account and earn that trust.  There are no shortcuts.

Yes, I would have liked to sell this account in a future, with some positive trust from the loans. I bought it "cheap" trying to flip it soon for more. You made it hard sincerely. It seems you don't like others make some BTC in the way they can. Buying and selling accounts is a honest way to earn BTC even if you don't agree.

Buying and selling accounts is not the problem here. As it was allready mentioned: you are trying to buy trust. Which Vod prevented to his abilities. If you are trading with someone that has an account labeled "Hero Member" - registered sometime 2010, would you trust that person more or less than a "Newbie" that registered last week?
Trust can not be bought, but only earned, can not be proven but only disproven.

I don't know when I tried to buy trust, I was happy with my 0 trust.

I'll repeat what was said again many times: a newbie with 0 Trust (capital T), isn't as trustworthy as a Sr. member with 0 trust. Trust (capital T) isn't the only thing that comes into determining ones reputation.

If you only bought to resell, you may want to rethink your business model. You may as well lock this thread as you have your answers but you just don't like them.
