Title: bitcoin-0.9.1-linux downloading blocks help needed please
Post by: bitcoins_vendor on May 16, 2014, 12:04:51 PM
I really need some advice, i have downloaded "bitcoin-0.9.1-linux " unpacked it to home/user/bitcoin-0.9.1-linux/ and I have created "bitcoin.conf" and saved it to "home/user/.bitcoin/bitcoin.conf" and all works as expected and it begins downloading blocks.

the problem is it takes 24hours to get to 200,000 blocks then it dramatically slows down taking another 5 days to reach 250,000 (im guessing slow down is caused  by the blocks size increasing)

so i wait 5 days and get this error (its not a one off ive tried 4 times)

"EXCEPTION: 11DbException DB::get: Cannot allocate memory bitcoin in ProcessMessage()"

there is tons of disk space (500gb with 21% used) so what is the problem? its driving me nuts with the 5day wait to fail at the last moment :(

as the error message says, you're out of memory, as in RAM.

try monitoring memory usage with htop/top to verify memory usage when it crashes.

Seems to be a memory problem.
You can use windows.
