Prices are in bitcoins and the columns of vps service plans are in order from lowest to highest sorted first by ram, then disk space, then bandwidth.  Prices are as of January 25, 2012.

Microtronix doesn't offer a real vps environment, particularly xen or kvm.  I specifically did not include any openvz providers.  Feel free to take notice of the reference to such in the subject of this thread if it is of any importance, interest, concern, notability, value, substance, usefulness, significance or relevancy to you.

OpenVZ is the most used solution for free kernel level virtualization on Linux. It provides OS-level virtualization and it can provide lower overheads if well managed. If you don't need a kernel module support in your VPS OpenVZ can be a very reliable choice in terms of cost/performance.

Wow, ok, kind of nasty about it but ok.  And OpenVZ is one of the most used on the NET, sorry but true.

Actually, check back through threads and such, Microtronix (I am the owner), was one of the very first VPS provider's that accepted Bitcoin's.  But oh well.  We also sell Dedi's, but oh well, guess we don't get to make the list :(

I apologize if you consider a suggestion or declaration of openvz as not real.  Perhaps 'real' is an inaccurate word to use to describe the difference between what openvz provides (or doesn't provide) to other types of virtualization implementations.  Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenVZ#OpenVZ_compared_to_other_Virtualization_Technologies) has a decent perhaps non-nasty explanation.  Besides...  the ability for any other human existence to prepare an alternative resource for similar or additional types of documentations is easily attainable, and if any such individual desires to pursue such efforts, they can easily make use of what I have publicly referenced here, including the gnumeric spreadsheet.

However, also to be fair is the reality of which pricing structures for openvz vary quite differently to kvm/xen vps providers in the sense that prices for openvz vps are oftentimes very much lower than xen/vm vps environments, and therefore, mixing them together without uniquely identifying them may cause confusion.  And since I didn't add reference to distinctly indicate which virtualization platforms were used, I decided not to include openvz because of the potential for the vast difference in pricing causing some confusion.

I would just like to add that this spreadsheet does not take into account the changing BTC price, which changes the prices of our (BitVPS.com (http://BitVPS.com)) VPS, Virtual Dedicated, and Dedicated server offerings due to our website / billing system utilizing dynamically updated pricing.  :)

They're cheaper because OpenVZ is more efficient that is all.  If you don't need a kernel module support in your VPS there is no need for KVM or XEN (most users don't need this).

OpenVZ is a glorified shell account.

Its not a virtual instance at all.

It may be cost effective but that doesnt make it not a piece of shit.

Not to mention how badly it mangles the node's filesystem.

Web Host/VPS Providers are not created equal...

I would take less resources and a higher price from a reputable, well reviewed host any day of the week. I have tried to get the most for my money in the past, and have ended up at horrible hosts with crap support, a lot of downtime, flagged IPs, etc... Ends up costing you more in the long run.

Always type "vps provider's name webhostingtalk.com" when you want to see reviews on a host. WHT aka webhostingtalk is well known for figuring out who is bad and who is not.
