Title: Around $2000 to spend
Post by: honorem on May 17, 2014, 09:39:08 AM
What is the best scrypt mining equipment available for $2000?

I think SHA mining equipment will provide a better return at this point. PM me if want a S2 coupon that should put you under $2k.

Better off to buy coins with it...mining either SHA or Scrypt is a waste at this point.

I agree, I recommend looking into buying bitcoin directly, and then trading alt-coins, to (hopefully) grow your BTC stash.

I don't think you should spend your money on hardware now.

If you really want to, I think you should look at Scypt ASICs now instead of BTC ASICS.  But, as I said,  I think you are better by buying bitcoins / other cryptocurrencies now (and trade a bit with them, or just hold them. I think the value of BTC will rise again soon).

Scrypt asic manufacturers include Gridseed, ZeusMiner, KNCMiner, Alpha Technology and others. But no one recommends mining, we all suggest you to buy bitcoins directly.

I like these by Hashra - production has started and they'll be shipping in 5 to 10 days.

they're the deal best out there for scrypt - I have a few on order.

there's a code you can enter to get 10% off - the 24 mh unit is a great deal

You can buy my rig for 1500, mine some vertcoin or other upcoming Scrypt coins and have enough leftover to buy 1 bitcoin to hold onto

Just buy the alt rigs, unless you want to mine direcly with coin terra 1 th.

But, I doubt anyone will lower the price around 2,000.

I'm slowly dumping my rigs - one board at a time...

I'll keep my MOBs because I run my gridseeds and blades off BAMT on a stick from RabbitLTC.

I have 23 MHS of Asic miners now and 7 GPU's (for about 4.9mhs) but I just don't see the value anymore in GPU mining given the cost of electricity and the wealth of scrypt coins being released all the time.

I built the rigs thinking I'd mine some of the hybrid crypto's but their values are not good at all and why waste the electric.

I'm mining one scrypt coin right now that's paying nearly $2/mh per day and I expect it to double in value so why spend any time on hybrids which is the only reason I'd need gpu's

In addition I have 48 MHS of new asic miners coming in the next two weeks from hashra.com

if anyone is looking to buy MSI R9 280 boards that are only 2 months old - I have 5 for sale right now.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=603805.msg6771785#msg6771785

You may also want to monitor the hardware section here on the forum for asic deals:  there are a lot of people selling their gridseeds right now at bargain basement prices. I found a guy in Greece willing to sell new ones for $40 a piece - so for $2,000 you could get 50 of the and run them at 850 Mhz and get 361kh out of each - that would give you: 18mh and if you mined the same coin as I'm mining you'd make $36/day - of course you'd need to buy a usb hub, a PSU, some cables and a rasberry pi to run the seeds but they're pain free that's for sure. In scrypt mode they take 7 watts so that's only 350 watts for 18 mh.

If you went the gpu route to get 18 mh - you'd need about 25 gpu boards each consuming about 350w each - 25 x 350 = 8,750 watts of power consumption and then figure 800 watts power supplies you need 11 psu's to power all those boards, not to mention the heat you'd generate and yes - you will have to buy fans to cool them also. Bottom line is that RIGS are a pain - I can't wait to get rid of my remaining gpu boards

the other route is that there are people selling gridseed blades right now also - getting about $800 used for them but they're only 5.6Mh and not as good a deal as used gridseeds are.

here's another way you could spend $2,000 and net about $40/day off sha256 mining -  the best paying is btc right now but there are a lot of new sha256 coins also

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=590816.0

of course the power consumption to make your $40 is higher than with scrypt asic.

Probably bitmain will reduce s2 to that price level first

at this point - maybe slightly better but if you're just looking to mine btc - that's a real losing proposition long term.

the only bright spot for sha256 is that there's a decent number of sha256 coins coming out.... so all the bitmain s1's are ready for boat anchor duty yet altho unless some better paying coin comes along real soon their power consumption will exceed their revenue generating capability.

why would I spend that much for 1 ths? - I can build a 1ths unit from boards for $1,000 - it will consume 1,100 watts though.

I meant a turnkey package.

I am assuming you are talking about Bit Fury boards, which are over priced as well and thats why they are blowing them out now as they work on a new design.  Still needs a power supply, interface, controller and power cable.

the addon stuff if cheap and I have it all....

it's still a good deal

Prices realistically need to come down to .50 per GH to give miners a chance,  but this is the point at current manufacturer cost. big problem.

I was just burned on scrypt mining. Why would you say never? My guess is either some new algorithm or SHA is the way to go for mining right now. The best option is still buying BTC and holding.

yes but you're still promoting GAW in your signature : LOL - wanna sell your BTC stuff? I'm looking for scrypt hardware

Yeah, GAW does sell scrypt miners as well as sha256 miners. Consider how fast the Gridseed 5chip units have dropped in the past month. Why would the new A2 chip units be any different? Unless LTC price increase beyond 3% of BTC, I do not see scrypt miners as a good investment at this point.

I hear ya - at least I made money off my seeds and have almost broken even.

I had assumed all along that things would drop pretty fast - I don't think anyone realized just how fast and how soon given the rate of change over the prior 12 months - y'know?

Just buy a gridseed miner or an antminer with that money.

Thats of course if you dont have any electricity cost, so that means its practically free.
