The Portland-based manufacturer released it last Monday (12th May) and demoed it at the Bitcoin2014 conference this weekend. Giants like Robocoin and Lamassu charge up to $20,000 for an ATM that exchange bitcoin for fiat currencies worldwide. Skyhook’s hardware and software are designed to make bitcoin more accessible to the masses, as well as existing bitcoin users. Portable size is great feature that it provides but ... there is only one but :) it is much easier to steal than giant Robocon for ex. I don't think anyone would go for the Robocoin ATM anymore, unless they slash their prices in a big way. That's a tricky question that you definitely need to consult an attorney about if you are serious. Regulation around the sale of Bitcoin is likely to shift again, as it's currently pretty gray. As it stands now, I believe the only states that don't have money transmission laws are Montana, New Mexico, and South Carolina. So if I lived in one of these states, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Also, even in the event they tried to enforce some bogus regulation, it would be a losing battle. Like the RIAA trying to scare people from torrents by suing a few college kids. 1st Btc Atm is just about 8th months old and look how many are around this day. Africa is in need of being a part of the Bitcoin. I belive ATMs in the Africa can change a lot and people will understand very fast how much help to those people it can give. It is a mutually beneficial relationship. The only losers will be exploitative companies such as Western Union and Mastercard. |
