Title: Dogie's Comprehensive... Do you want an IR camera? <---- Please vote! Post by: dogie on May 21, 2014, 01:35:25 PM Hello all,
Would you consider an IR camera a worthy investment for miner reviews? They produce pictures like this, but are very, very expensive. A camera of this resolution would have cost likely $40,000. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/25/ParowozIR.jpg A more reasonable camera ($5000-8000) would produce images like this. I could then tile several to create a larger picture, although they would use different scales. http://www.applied-infrared.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/s2.jpg This is more investment then I could personally put in, so the additional question is would you be willing to contribute to such an investment? needs an iPhone but still cheaper Title: Re: Dogie's Comprehensive... Do you want an IR camera? <---- Please vote! Post by: bit_wizard on May 21, 2014, 01:49:13 PM No I will not pitch in for a toy you don't need.
Cheers Title: Re: Dogie's Comprehensive... Do you want an IR camera? <---- Please vote! Post by: wpgdeez on May 21, 2014, 01:56:53 PM Do I want an IR camera, yes. Do I want to pay for you to have one, no.

I agree, though mostly because there's not really all that much added value in it from a technical viewpoint; designers already know this information and try to optimize it, choose cooling solutions, etc., while for end-users there's not all that much to it given that the design is essentially finalized and most people would at best consider swapping out fans or dropping heatsinks on/under the usual suspects; the hashing chips, the voltage regulators, and if you're unlucky, inductors. It's still eye candy, though - can't blame Dogie for wanting one ;) If anybody's curious as to what some miners look at in a thermal imaging view, check out: http://cryptomining-blog.com/?s=thermal Title: Re: Dogie's Comprehensive... Oh wow that E4 hack is a much better deal - if it still works. E4s cost around $1600 in the UK. |
