Title: Antminer S2 cheap and easy air filter
Post by: btcmner on May 22, 2014, 12:18:45 AM
Antminer S2 has a set of large front inlet fans. These suck a bit of dust, and outside a datacenter (meaning, in your dusty home), they will accumulate lots of dust very soon if you don't filter the entering air flow.

Here is a cheap, easy and instant solution : you can use one of these kitchen disposable hood air filter papers :

This is a perfect type of paper for air filters : almost transparent, very light, does not put any noticeable additional drag on your fan, and these have a rubber band, like a shower cap.

Now, they also have the perfect size to just fit in half a second onto the front part of the S2. And presto, your front air entry is filtered !

And the paper is nearly transparent, which has the added bonus of not hiding the LEDs or the LCD screen !

Of course, don't forget to stick a small piece of filter paper onto the PSU inlet fan, on the right side, as well.
This way, your S2 will keep its inside free of dust and will make you a long use.

This is quite cool I must say.
Doesn't it stuck the airflow too much? Isn't temp. going up too much after assembling this air filter?

Not at all, the drag is not noticeable, there is no significant change, that's the whole point of this kind of filter. ;)

+1

wish id had these when i was using my avalons - they had a ton of mosquitoes & dust in them after 6 months of mining
Haha poor mosquitoes...

Thanks for the tip BTW, I just leave my case open and due to the high amount of airflow I don't get much dust in, or is it just my room thats resonably clean? :P

Can't find these anywhere or online... or I don't know what exactly to search for.

Hair nets seem to have more gaps in the fabric... I imagine they would not be as effective.

The one pictured by the OP looks to be made specifically to be a disposable filter.

Edit: this one seems pretty close... http://www.amazon.com/3M-Disposable-407-Polypropylene-Universal/dp/B00AFEDLBG/ref=pd_sim_op_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0674FVFBR43W8JF2S0AE#productDescription Think it would work?
