Title: Bitcoin miners
Post by: wtcr_landerson on January 31, 2012, 05:46:16 AM
What newbies and other adventurers using for mining in here?

I've played with just Guiminer and BAMT myself. What else is out there?

I like BAMT best as you can modify the core, memory and fan speeds by making a change in a config file.
Nothing t0o fancy till you play around with other switches/features.

That is my thought on it.

Big fan of the Java based Bitminter, only caveat is, only pool members get to use it. www.bitminter.com

CGMINER.

I can't recommend it highly enough. It's easy, efficient and under constant development. It also does engine, memory and fan speed management, and a wealth of other useful settings.

Best of all, the dev is active on this board, at this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.0

I started on Guiminer when I was first getting going. I had good hash rates. But I recently switched from PPS pool mining to P2Pool mining (still PPS PPLNS, but decentralized). Since then I've been using cgminer which gets me slightly less mhash, and I started poclbm tonight which adds 20 on top of cgminer. I just need to make sure my shares are submitted.

Correction. p2pool is PPLNS not PPS and not be confused with SMPPS or ESMPPS.  :)

I've been using GUIMiner on my 4x5850 rig because its so easy to use.  On my 2x7970 rig, I've been using Diablo miner because GUIMiner doesn't support the 7900 series yet.
