Isn't it irresponsible to not write the thread title in a form of a question when you merely heard a rumor and there is no official confirmation?

A individual bank preventing a transaction for whatever reason has nothing to do with a countries stance on the legality of bitcoin either.

We do not understand because your question is phrased incorrectly. If you want to ask if Spain wants to ban bitcoin, you would ask:
"Is Spain planning to ban Bitcoin?"

"Portugal and Spain banned Bitcoin anyone know that?" means that Spain and Portugal has banned bitcoin, and that we all are ignorant fools except you.

I agree. We should leave negative feedback for spreading FUD, the Spanish government is too worried about grabbing as much money as they can, they won't have time to be thinking about Bitcoin.

They are only considering banning bitcoin derivatives in Belgium, not banning bitcoin itself

and belgium is only banning derivatives. such as the EFT that winklevosses are doing.

they are not banning individuals from purchasing bitcoins.

i think that some people that read the news. so sit back, soak in the informations along with the caffiene. interpret the words, re-read the actual source document and not the rehashed news report. and then see if their interpretation still corresponds to the source document before even attempting to post it as news here.

its like a stupid school kid race. whoever can spread the gossip first gets to be the popular kid that day..

i prefer actual non-fud info when someone wishes to inform us of something new. and i hate having to peel away all the Fud and misunderstandings that these gossip queens like to push into the forum without even checking the source or giving enough time for their brain to filter properly.

Through your broken English, this is exactly how I understood your question, bud.

For a very brief period of time, I, too, was somewhat critical of those who didn't relay their message across via the proper use of the English language until, that is, I was slapped in the face with the realization that this is an international board, and trying to vote down the accused would prove futile, if you get my drift.

I'm sure that in Spain, little boys learning English for the first time would have difficulty distinguishing the difference between a Pole and a pole, sans the aid of a mentor helping the poor lad in getting his head wrapped around the ideal.

Quick aside: I only weld stuff pertaining to Belgium on Tuesdays when sex kittens go to college with boys who rally 'round the flag

English is a beautiful language, and tool, especially if one knows how to use it to their advantage. Sadly, I'm a novice, but I have aspirations.

I apologize for coming off a bit rude. Everyone is just a bit fed up with MSM FUD.

I would have merely assumed English wasn't your first language with the incorrectly phrased title but your whole basis for even asking such question was based upon a single bank transaction not going through which doesn't necessarily have anything to do with bitcoin's legality and could be either an individuals banks policy, a limit reached, fraud, mistake, ect...

So the question you should have asked was "Has bank xxxx in Spain blocked Bitcoin payments?"

Could a mod please make the thread title more accurate? (or the OP)
The current title is way too far from reality.

Portugal here.

As far as I know this rumor is false, nothing like that from Bank of Portugal, plus bitcoin is quite unknown in Portugal.

it's normal ... all banks in Europe track SEPA signature to blacklist client (close account).
it's not new because media don't relay this.

Spain here. As far as the spanish banks are concerned, they are too busy figuring out ways to absorb all our money (such as charging a negative interest), so no announcements either.

Not true.

"Bank of Portugal said in report on global regulation of Bitcoin

A body of legal support to the U.S. Congress issued a report which compiles all the positions taken by financial institutions around the world . The opinion of the BOP is based on the analysis of the European Central Bank.

The Law Library of Congress , the legal entity that gathers information on specific topics for the U.S. Congress , gave an overview of the various position statements made by banks around the world relating to Bitcoin . The Bank of Portugal is referred to in the study as a relay the position taken by the European Central Bank.

In the BoP statement concerning means of payment , it is said that " Bitcoin can not be considered safe currency, since there is no certainty of its acceptance as a means of payment " and that the lack of regulation means that users are payable " all risk , since there is not a fund for the protection of depositors / investors."

" For most , their creation is decentralized , there is no one 'master system ' is difficult to define the jurisdiction under which procedures and rules applicable to the model should be established ," explains the bop in a statement the end of 2013 , concluding that " neither the ECB nor the Bank of Portugal issued supervise the activity or use of Bitcoin " .

Portugal is referred to in the compilation which contains the making of over 40 nations on the subject of Bitcoin position. The report concluded that only China and Brazil have specific laws or regulations for the virtual currency .

In the case of Brazilian emphasis is placed on the creation of a law that provides for the standardization of mobile payment systems and the creation of electronic currencies , which includes the Bitcoins . The Central Bank of Brazil and the National Monetary Council are responsible for monitoring their use .

Do the banks have soldiers or police with guns that prevent you from freedoms like governments?

Banks are private organizations. They can no more ban Bitcoin than McDonalds can ban hamburgers.

Sure they may make it so that you cannot use their service for such activities but any private organization can do so. The solution is to not use their business.

You can ask in questions you aren't sure of, just phrase your thread subjects differently.

For example:

"Rumor: Did Portugal and Spain try to ban Bitcoin?"

  or

"My friend told me Portugal and Spain banned Bitcoin, is this true?"

If you phrase your thread topic as a question, it doesn't sound so much like FUD.

According to Bitlegal, there is no ban on the possession or trade of Bitcoins in Spain or Portugal. The European Central Bank (ECB) has also taken no restrictive steps on Bitcoin.
