Title: Antminer S1 Hot PCI-e Cables
Post by: chisefu on May 23, 2014, 08:56:19 AM
Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased 3x Antminer S1's and hooked them up, successfully got them online with wifi and hashing away at 180gh/s each.  The problem I'm having is the PCI-e cable is extremely hot.  I think I burned a PSU earlier, took about 3 hours but it won't turn on anymore.  These are the PSU that's have 2 pci-e 6 pin plugs piggybacking on one cable.  I was reading earlier that there should be a 4-pin molex 5v cable attached to a device, just to access its resistor and put some form of load on that rail.

The one Ant I've got mining well is on the Naxn 500w single volt rail with 2 cables (one for each PCI-e plug) and the 2 that are getting hot cables are the

PSU that seems to be working well:

I spent about 3 hours researching up on this before attaching everything, but I think I'm missing something simple.  Thanks for any help!

You shouldn't use both pci-e connectors that are piggy-backed on the thermaltake psu... just use 1 and cut the 4+4 pin cpu connector (use the screw terminals) to power the other blade. That will solve your hot cable issue. You should be fine with stock clocks, but if you overclock with that psu be prepared for it to die soon depending on how much you overclock. Hope that helps!

Ah thank you!  I don't have the screw-power type, it's the newer clip plugs for pci-e.  Do you think I could get away with molex -> pci-e adapters?  I read somewhere that you shouldn't do that, but I can't remember why.

edit:  Wait I lied, there are screw-pin terminals on this as well, cool.
