Title: Do any Bitcoin think tanks exist?
Post by: RCHumphrey on May 23, 2014, 12:25:38 PM
Although I'm aware of organisations such as The Bitcoin Foundation, do any crypto think tanks exist? Would be interesting to know if any think tanks do investigate and research various aspects relating to bitcoin such as the economic side as there appears to be a general lack of academic insight? Anyone?

Well you can be a bit more specific with what you mean by think tanks. but from what i understand is that we all have a potential of a future think tank and all the mods on this forum, some of which have been associated with the bitcoin foundation, act as a think tank themselves.

Lobbyists often belong to a think tank type of organisation

Sometimes as advocacy groups... I haven't seen many economic papers and think it could be very interesting to research

It isnt necessary that the lobbyist only think about the betterment of the bitcoin, some lobbyist are also working for the bitcoins to loose their value for their own personal benefits. I dont think that lobbyist can do good to the bitcoin in the long run

And that is not at all answering my question... good old UpDowners sigging so hard.

Think tanks have a lot of benefits to society, and a think tank revolving around Bitcoin could be very beneficial. I'm talking about real in depth analytical thinking.

Why do you need an organizartion to think? Think for yourself, then publish your results...
If you need money for research, then advertise your research proposal and try to collect donations.

I'm against lobbyists, because they are acting against majority interests most of the time.

There is a difference between think tanks and lobbyists.

I'm not interested in getting donations or having a political agenda. I was interested to know if any think tanks currently exist. I know there are a few research papers out there, but there doesn't seem to be a community where people can exchange ideas and so on...

You're currently posting within such a community... ::)

What's the problem? Just post your ideas and you'll easily find like-minded people to discuss it here or at reddit/r/bitcoin.

The Satoshi Nakamoto Institute? http://nakamotoinstitute.org/ (http://nakamotoinstitute.org/)

They're not quite a think tank but they have an extensive collection of cryptocurrency academic papers that are the foundation for rigorous thinking.
