Title: ScryptMiner GUI - Simple GUI for Litecoin mining
Post by: Matoking on February 03, 2012, 01:32:39 PM
ScryptMiner GUI is a simple GUI I created for the scrypt-fork of cpuminer, which is used with Litecoin and other alternate cryptocurrencies based on the scrypt proof-of-work.
It has a bunch of neat features like mining pool status reporting (unpaid rewards and such), speed rate reporting and share rate counting.

It is coded in Qt and released under MIT license. At the moment it's available for Windows and Linux.

Glad to see that this project is back, I'm sure many users will appreciate it. (If you find the program useful, please be kind and donate some LTC to Matoking!)

I would like to observe that this new version correctly reports the number of shares even with the newest minerd.

I also have one feature request: would it be possible to minimize the window to the system tray?

I updated the program to work with the newest minerd shortly after I started the thread.

About the system tray minimization feature request, I think I'll get into it right now.

Cool. I was also thinking that it would be useful to have a command-line option to start the program (and the mining) minimized, so that users can set it up to autostart when the system boots.

Just added a command line argument --automine that starts the application minimized and starts mining automatically and implemented system tray minimization. Now I just need a nifty little icon to go with the application, a blank spot in the system tray doesn't look too nice. I'll release a new version when it is done.

EDIT:
New version out with optional --automine launch parameter, minimization to system tray and some other little fixes:

It is coded in Qt and released under MIT license. It's currently only available for Windows, but Mac OS X and Linux compatibility should be easy to achieve if demand arises.

It's OBVIOUS there is "demand".
What you're really after, is donations /before/ it's done instead of doing it first and waiting for it to be worth something.
Greedy much?

I would like to point out that the OP never asked for donations.
Also, it is not obvious that the author of a program can provide binaries for operating systems he does not use.

Very Very nice! Would it be possible to add Elitist Jerks to the list?

Post by: Matoking on February 04, 2012, 09:11:01 PM
Yes, I'll try adding Elitist Jerks pool to the list of pools and also try my hands at compiling for Linux tomorrow. :)

EDIT:
I've managed to compile Scryptminer-GUI on Ubuntu. It was so easy I cried. I also added the Elitist Jerks pool. Next release should be coming up soon enough.

New release for Windows:
http://www.mediafire.com/?eu8s3f6zl4omc3f
Release for Linux (Ubuntu, no idea if it works with other distros too):
http://www.mediafire.com/?7on3x3uiby4bc96

EDIT 2:
I've added Linux binaries to the OP. Remember to read README since it has instructions on how to install Qt4 libraries. They were compiled under Ubuntu, but I have no idea whether they work on other distros too. Bear with me, this is the first time I've tried compiling anything in Linux.

Can the output be logged to a file as well, rather than just a screen.

Also can you set the output window so that if I have the scroll bar at the bottom of the window, or I've hit END then the scroll bar stays at the bottom. Currently it jumps to the top as soon as new output has entered the window.

marked.

maybe someone can help me with this, how do i get it to save my miner info (pool addy, user, pass,...) and how do i add the automine command?

It saves the settings into a file named easyminer.conf automatically when you close the program. You can use the automine parameter by creating a shortcut and appending " --automine" without quotes to Target.

What's missing from the Pool-X mining pool information?

EDIT :
Pull request merged. Thanks very much. :)

New release coming up with better Pool-X reportin and option to save output to a file. I haven't got the output tab to work neatly yet when it removes text.

Linux (Ubuntu, r9) :

EDIT 2 :
The "restart miner when it crashes" option seems to restart the miner even when it shouldn't (for example, when stopping the miner) at least on Ubuntu. It will be closed when you close the GUI, though.

Depends on what's been changed. In most cases it should work just like that.

I'm pretty sure I did not change the output format in the latest release, so the GUI should work with 2.1.5. I tested it briefly on Linux and it seems to work.

You can do both, just put in the correct credentials and start mining.

I would recommend to add a small menu/buttons for saving the setting (without having to restart the program), and also add some version info in the gui.

Ive been trying to get scryptminer to work for hours, and I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I extracted scryptminer x64 (Im on windows 7 pro on a q9550), run it, enter my username and password for Pool-X, port 9332, and click start mining.

Nothing happens. Its says "Miner started. It usually takes a minute until the program starts."

But speed stays at 0. Shares accepted N/A Shares Rejected N/A

I watched this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvhpOQHVZpM, Im doing the exact same thing but it never starts and my CPU usage stays at 0-2% across every core.

Why isnt it working???

I have a problem updating information pool (pool-x.eu), when I try to update I get "Could not update data mining pool."
I have reviewed the source code and see that the request is made: http://pool-x.eu/api?api_key=apiKey, I tried to address in the browser out and working properly.
I thought that is because I use a proxy but I see that the request is made by port 80, as in the browser where it works.

And what should I write in "Additional parameters" to boost my hashrate? Because actually I'm sitting at ~20 khash with a Radeon HD5700, 0% usage.

If the minerd or scryptminer in linux produces 50% less hashes and gets no acceptances of shares problem, what would be a fix for that?

I have a litecoin-qt downloading the blockchain atm (I'm sure that has nothing to do with it if running connected to a pool other than p2p00l)

This ones a new problem for me.

Would it be possible to get the notroll.in pool added to the Mining Pool Status list for the Windows version?

Actually, what would be better is if there was an "other" option so that anyone could watch their mining pool's status. That way there wouldn't be the issue of needing to add more and more mining pools to the list. I don't know how easy that would be to do, but it's just an idea.

That's not possible since the names the mining pools use in the JSON API to denote stats vary.

On a general note, I've stopped developing this application. I have an idea for a similar GUI application for cgminer, but that's really low in my list of priorities right now.

What does the "scantime" setting do? (it was set by default to 15)

This was not answered and I wonder the same: what is the optimal setting for scantime and what does it depend on?

Mine was set at 4, not sure if it should be more or less? I run a Intel I7 2600k on Win64. Currently (5 cores), I get about 40kh/s (upping to 8 cores only increases about 3kh/s more while CPU goes to 100%).

Thanks!

The best settings are 2 to 4 but why? I have no idea. I assume it's the amount of time to look ahead for work.

Not a clue. Adjust it to see if you get any difference, I don't.

ScryptMiner stops immediately after I click "START" if the following additional parameters are included.

--shaders 1120 --intensity 10 --worksize 256

I guess those are the wrong kind of parameters but an error message would be a good improvement if you are still updating the code.

Thanks for the app.

Actually the link works but when the download is about to finish i m getting a network error or something...
With firefox i m getting the file in my hard drive with a .part extension and in the case of chrome it totally rejects the file.

Maybe the problem it is caused by security issues because my antivirus identifies it as a trojan...

Anyway i went with the r9 version and i m mining right now :p

Awesome.  I was wondering why the litecoin wallet didn't come with a minerd.exe, but this gui built one for me, I stuck all the extracted files into the same folder as litecoin-qt.exe, ran the scryptminer.exe, put in the credentials from the ltcoin.net pool, and I'm at 0.00029422 LTC after an hour, not bad for my crappy 2.5 Khash/second system.

It saves the settings into a file named easyminer.conf automatically when you close the program. You can use the automine parameter by creating a shortcut and appending " --automine" without quotes to Target.

For some reason the Additional parameters are not saved in the easyminer.conf file. Can it be fixed?

Holy cow this thread got over 139,000 views with just 4 pages. That means OP actually did something of value that is worthwhile to the community, and its not the same 4 people posting in the same thread over and over and over again.

This is a great program! I will definitely sacrifice you a certain amount. It would be nice if there was an opportunity to mine and other coins of algoritm scrypt, for example dogecoin. I hope you do not consider this impudence. Good luck to you. :D
