Your first step is to study and understand this => bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

If you want your own alt-coin, it is now a layman's job. Get one done @ CoinGen.

If u want to make quick money ...try an Alt Coin. Its just gambling.

If u want to make steady money ... go back to the first PDF. Learn Bitcoin protocol and develop things onto it.

If u are really interested in Crypto, u may do a Google search on 'Ethereum'.

Best of Luck.

Just look into Curriculums, how much they cover cryptographie, Computer security, etc.

But regardless what you are studying. They just can teach you Basics. If you really want to go balldeep into this Topic, you have to do it your self.

But why do you even want to study this Topic? If you are really that interessted, just ask for some links, in this Forum. People will provide you with plenty. A lot to read and a lot of things to try out.
Still, some serious academic studies is always good, but you don't have to wait till you get in the right class to start learning.

Maybe I just understood the term "to study" wrong.
Do you mean at a univerity or to you mean in private? Since you mentioned that you are finishing School, I assumed, you are talking about University.

I have seen some threads with similar questions, but maybe they are outdated. So starting this new thread might be a good idea even if there are already some.

A good start, might be this:

Bitcoin wiki (https://en.bitcoin.it) and bitcoin whitepaper (https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf) are two good places to start IMO. :)

3 yr uni degrees are quite limited in this subject, i will be doing degreein something else. This is for private study, part time courses, reading around.

Thanks for the link

I like your enthusiasm, but why do you want to learn how to create  own currency?

I'd choose a normal study for your school, and learning C++ and Java and such in your own time, becouse this life is hard.

Last I looked, there was +/- 300 different crypto currencies listed.

Why would you want to develop another one? Not any of them, come close to what "Bitcoin" is doing.

Well good luck, with whatever you decided.

I dont think you need to fully understand everything about the bitcoin protocol, but just get to know the basics.

Well, cryptography would be an obvious choice that has far reaching implications even outside of cryptocurrency. Computer Science in general for sure. If you're really looking to make an altcoin in order to make money then perhaps something like marketing could help you there.

I would study Economy, it doesnt only help you with understanding how the market of bitcoin's and other altcoins work.
But will also help you in the real world, if you ever need a job.
Otherwise math would also benefit you if you dont like Economy.

Obviously a lot of these are good ideas but don't forget things like business training depending on what you want to do. Or even advertising could come in handy.

I just did constant reading on the forum, transferring money among different wallets, making purchases, watching YouTube videos, calculating fees at brokerages, and more.

You learn by doing.  I'd say it took about 2 months to get a decent grasp of the terminology and how things worked.

Hi,
Don not put heavy efforts in creating new altcoin, but try to support BTC and choose any other alt and write some code for example. C++ is a good start BTW

Should focus on what you like and not what you can gain the most.

You can never be good on what you do not like.
