Title: FancyBitcoin's 60Mh Scrypt miners, pros and cons
Post by: slu2 on May 26, 2014, 02:24:26 PM

Pros:
It is hashing at the advertised rate, in fact it is a lot faster.  It is advertised at 60Mh, but it hashes pretty consistently at 74Mh

Shipping:  Was FAST from China, it took 4 days to get all the way to me on the western hemisphere of the USA.

Seller was very responsive

Cons:

The factory refuses to give the root/ssh username and password.

I spoke to the seller several times since buying this last week, and we can not get this from the factory.

I wrote this on their feedback:

"I don't really want a refund. I will keep the item. I just wanted to make a note here, that the factory is not providing the username/password to login to this computer and change settings. This makes me extremely nervous because I need to harden security on this unit. I planned on buying several more of these miners, but without the proper access to the computer, I can not chance buying any more of these. I have bought many of these units before this, and they all had root access, except this one. "

Not very impressed with this miner, based on cost, performance and features.  Im still mining with it.  I made 3.88 LTC yesterday (06/02/2014), it started out being almost 8 LTC a week ago, but it has been performing at about 50 MHs for the last few days rather than 60 MHs as advertised.

Also, I should note that I never did get the root or ssh access from the manufacturer.
The config screen is not password protected at all.

When I finally get to ROI, I will let you know.  It's looking at about 6 months on this unit.

I should also note that this is co-located at a very high end, well cooled datacenter.

The performance of this machine is at max capacity.

I wonder if I have someone mining on my machine besides me.  But I may never really know, since I don't have root.

Is there by chance another OS that I could use for this machine?

BTW-  Since the last report, I have been getting up to 7 LTC a day.   It's between 6 LTC and 7.5 LTC per day with this rig it seems.

You have a point.  Without root access you have no way to tell what it is really doing.  For all you know these could be part of the chinese military hacking network.  What a brilliant method to get around blocking IP ranges from specific countries.  Not to sound like a tinfoil hat.  I'm just saying, you have no idea.

Ya it is annoying.   I am looking for a way to flash a new OS on this rig.   Any ideas anyone?
